Tax Deductions

Hi. I'm new to all of this but thinking about buying a motor home in the not to distanced future. Have been wondering if a motor home is like a second home in that there may be some tax deductions involved. For an example, if paying in full as opposed to borrowing the money if any tax advantages are available? How do you handle this with yours?

Your tax person can work very easily with this. Loan interest is handled same as mortgage interest if it is for a "2nd home" having a kitchen & a bathroom (cabin, sailboat or RV). That helped us make the decision on our 2006 Safari but we're paying that off ASAP. Getting rid of loan interest pays a higher rate of return than any passbook or CD rate you can get by keeping $$ in a bank. I'd still do anything I could to get into an Airstream ... !

Welcome to the forums. I can assure you, from experience, that the operating, maintenance, and misc. costs of owning a motor home will far offset any tax advantages you may get. However, there is the psychiatrist's bill you can deduct for getting your head examined.
