Storing your Airstream

I hunted for a thread on this searching but did not find one.

What are some creative options for storing your stream? I just got word that after two years I have to move as the building is being sold. My preliminary local hunt is coming up nil for covered storage which I have had since purchase. Any ideas or options (covers, etc)?????

Covered storage in your area. But to pricey for me.

I store my Safari in NC in my backyard, not covered.
I store my Excella on a rented space in FL, not covered.
Both on gravel pads.

When we built our house in 2005 we added enough concrete beside the garage to keep our trailer at home. We did not have an Airstream at the time, so when we got this one it was great to have right next to garage while updating the interior. We have water, 30 amp 120 electric and a 4" sewer clean out (not a dump station, for obvious reasons). With our trailer there we can also have courtesy overnight parking.

A W Warn- too pricy for me as well. I contacted them. What amazes me is that two years ago I called around when I first bought mine, in season (it was Feb) and the price was about half what it is now for the same three places.

I use a 12 x 26 canopy by Shelter Logic over my 26' Argosy.
It wasn't tall enough so I used 5 gallon buckets filled with concrete as bases for
the 10 poles. I placed the base plates with lag screws into the cement when it was wet. Not only do the 10 buckets / Piers give it enough clearance, they also assure the canopy isn't going anywhere when the wind blows.
I payed about $250 which is good but its 1 1/2 old and the canopy is starting to rip. The frame is holding up well and replacement canopies are available.

I am STILL looking. I found now tow places- one for $220mth (RV port) and one for $190mth (fully enclosed and locked). The $190 is about 10 miles away but it is in a warehouse with stuff just pushed in next to each other. The owner seems very nice and he does not allow anyone to move their stuff from the warehouse only he moves things and he puts it at the door when you want to use it. What think ye? I am ok with the price. The warehouse is interesting but it is a "stuff everywhere and fitted in view." My family thinks it is fine since he is the only one moving things. He has Mercedes, sailboats, motorhomes, one Airstream outside and even a log cabin stored inside (tiny house) that someone bought from that show. Any experiences like this? The gentleman uses a lift truck for the moving but he said he would/could use his truck (a ford ranger) to move it across the warehouse since I have a propride hitch with a stinger. I have until Oct 10th to move. The other place that is more expensive is about 30 miles away. It is fancy, with a dump station and new but $500 more a year too.

So, ... when someone else's stored car leaks fuel and starts a fire.... whose insurance will compensate you?.... and who will argue your case for you?...and how much insurance does the man actually carry as a storekeeper? How do you know he's not underinsured if you cannot appraise everything else in the warehouse?
If he does run something into your coach... who pays? And how will you like doing without for the month or more while repairs are made? Is there a replacement?
I hate community-storage (but I understand, not everyone has much choice.)
(Can you tell I'm a skeptic?)

There is a great storage place in North Texas if anyone is interested.
Covenant RV Storage. They have both covered and non-covered spaces and were quite reasonable in price last year when mine was there for several months. Gated and with electric hookups for those times when you need to work on/in your unit and use the A/C.

Update to this thread. I moved from the enclosed facility. The insurance was on each owner. He stored only with proof of insurance. He also had waivers for any damage.

I ended up in a carport-like facility for $180mth.

As a general statement, you ALWAYS want your insurance to be responsible. The last thing you want is another insurance company, which has zero interest or need to keep you happy, being responsible for your loss. Handling the loss should be handled by your insurance always. Then if your insurance company wants so sub-ligate (which they likely will), they handle that.

I was paying $289 a month. Ouch. But, this is what I got, with power:



It was in Port Richey and eventually it just became a drag as we inched closer to full-time to drive an hour one way to go work on the Airstream. Didn't seem like such a hassle when I first posted in this thread.

I pay $110.00 for indoor, my own space, with walls, no electric. I believe it is 12 by 40.

Certainly not the least expensive way to do this, but, if one likes to do work on their Airstream almost all the time, having it convenient is nice:

Always plugged in, garage heated, but there may be some cost return in the fact it has no weather related issues while in the garage. Hopefully, this is going to make my AS last for a long time.

Here is where we store.. in my back yard.. may put a roof some day..
