Just wondering - did the insurance company offer you anything
for "reduced value" given that the decision was not to repair, or did you not pursue that possibility?

I can see about 17 dimples on the rear end cap. There are a couple of dimples on the hood and roof of the truck.

Thanks for all the comments. It's covered now. Haha!
It could have been so much worse. We were lucky.

We don't have a shed, but it wouldn't have mattered. We were in a campground at the time.

I'm curious......how big was the hail that did the damage? We've been camping twice when storms produced small hail (dim size maybe), but luckily no damage. It did make a heck of a racket.

99% of it was dime size or smaller, but there were a few mixed in the were about the same diameter as a quarter. The left rear corner has three dings in it, but as I stated you have to be on a ladder to see them. Maybe the Florida heat will get them started on the healing process. Each other panel (silver) on the ends has one or maybe two small dimples.

Once after an Oklahoma hailstorm, my dad used ice to take the dimples out of the hood of his pickup. Said it was only fair, since ice made the dimples in the first place.
What he did was park in the summer sun where the metal would get good and hot. Then he gently placed an ice cube in each dimple. The cold applied to the hot metal caused it to shrink, and the dimples popped right out. If the light hit the hood just right you could still see the marks left by the hailstones, but they were a lot shallower than before.

I'll move it out into the sun this August (we will be getting ready for a Colo trip) and let it heat up, then try the ice. This sounds good. Thanks for the info. If I remember, I'll come back here and post an update.

Gettin-Away, we also had similiar damage to our Airstream in the same hail storm. I, too have end-cap damage and roof damage. I called the insurance company and am waiting for an adjustor to come out and assess the damage. We've had two Airstreams and this is the first time we've had hail damage. I couldn't believe the amount of hail - it looked like it had snowed. I was just sick when I saw my dented girl.

Well, you were smart enough to have insurance. Still can't believe we "didn't!" I really think we dodged a bullet though. Even with the ladder, you really have to look closely, with the light just right to find a dimple. I think we will be alright.
Please let me know what you decide to do. Bill Thomas, our local AS dealer, is good, but I think you have to go back to JC to get a whole new roof. Just my opinion though.

I think it would be wise to claim it even if your didn't have it repaired, though many companies policies will pay only 40% of the cost of the repairs (by their insurance policy) unless you have it repaired, the 100%. consider if it starts leaking at a later time the insurance company may not pay a dime as your failed to protect the property by doing the repairs or the time limit on the statue of limitations may have run out and the insurance company would then not be liable for the damages. I would suggest you take it to a reputable Airstream dealer and let them determine damages and negotiate with insurance accordingly. Just my thoughts
