Recommendations for extended warranty..

We have about 8 months left on our factory warranty and now we are starting to inquire about extended warranties..any suggestions out there?

Be careful.....30yrs experience with Auto Extended "warranty" plans, more appropriately, service plans.
Stay away from any phone or mailed solicitations.

Not sure how a trailer plan would be amortized, without a lot of "mechanical", ie transmission, water pump etc., on a trailer just what would be covered is in question.
In the auto field, nothing in the cosmetic area; paint, upholstery, weatherstrip, (leaks) are covered.

Calling some AS dealers to see whats available would be a good place to start. Make sure to ask whats covered and what isn't.

Can't tell you the number of times I've heard...."but I bought a bumper to bumper warranty....everything should covered".......NOT!!

Hi kidsgone. At the end of the 2 year warranty, you'll have established that your major systems avoided lemon status. Now they are likely to last as long as any major home appliance purchase. So that might be ten years. Or twelve. Or fifteen or more. That's a mighty long time to be paying into a fixed term extended warranty. Seems like a great profit center for whoever sells 'em. Makes me mad when I buy a flash card at Best Buy and they even want to sell an extended warranty on those. Always reminds me of Sid Caesar's cash register eyes 31 seconds into this clip...

We're coming up on 6 years of ownership. I installed my own bypass valve for winterizing. That prepared me to say no problem when my water pump pooped out in late '09 -- fairly straightforward. I might have caused that one myself. Otherwise we've had no problem with our fridge, HW heater, AC, stove, microwave, converter or whatever.

Best recommendation I've heard is to self-insure. Count any deferred $$ not spent on premiums as the emotional down payment. Self insuring will result in you paying less in the long run on 98% of all of your purchases.
