Mission, TX - '70s 30-footer estate auction

There is an estate auction this Saturday, January 26, at 10:00AM in Mission, TX. The only info on the auction list is "30' Airstream International travel trailer, bill of sale." I don't know if that means that the family has not found the title.

Here is the auction listing - Petro

You can see that this is so wedged into the storage building that it is not possible to see window layouts and identify further. So this could be an Ambassador, Sovereign or Excella 500. There is no clue on condition beyond what is seen in the photographs.

I'll ask if they can give me the VIN so we could identify this further -- hard to say what might come of that. This came into the Help Desk from a family member and I'm posting it as an FYI if anybody wants to follow up.

That's an interesting collection of... umm... stuff. I noted that one of the other photos in the gallery is of 3 Coleman stoves, 4 Coleman lanterns and some assorted other lanterns. Mission is FAR from where I'll be this weekend, so I'm not tempted.

At least it's been stored inside - I would expect (hope) to see less rot that way. Good sized dent.

You have not lived until you go to any auction in the Valley....during the Winter Texan time.

One of the bar-none poorest places in the US. And I don't see nice TT's down there (of our type, in use) compared to other places. 20, 30 years ago maybe (when their popularity was at it's height so a good number of new/used).

The only thing I see in the RGV are Uncle Lester trailers . . ""wahl, we did'n know what to do with Uncle Lester, so Cousin Myrtle let us park an old trailer out back on her place so's he had a place to live".

.

I have not heard any info back to allow us to know year or actual model on this Airstream.

Worried about sham sales or stolen Airstreams, I won't say more but I have determined that the estate/former owner in question did live at the fixed address where the sale will be taking place. ie, it seems quite authentic.

Still -- going all the way to the Valley based on the minimal info available and apparent storage conditions would take a leap of faith. Personal inspection would matter most. Indoor storage? Good. Mice? Maybe. Has it been used in the last how many years?

Hard to assume this would be more than an 'As Found' unit requiring a lot of work.

I'd bet it's a 1978 31'. The added mid side marker light. Very similar to my 28' that doesn't.
Likely a street side double bed with the "L" lounge configuration in the front based on window configuration. Overhead power for the window AC unit? Possible lived in while it being inside.

Auction Result

Interestingly when I read about this auction I realized we are at an RV park less than a mile away. So on Sat I went to see the trailer and the other items for auction.

Bottom line on the trailer is it was in terrible condition and I will try to attach a few pictures I took. The trailer had not been moved in many years, was hard connected to an external water conditioner. The plate showing the year particulars etc had been removed, it was sold with no title, no salvage and actually sold only as 'parts'. It sold for $1,550 and I talked with the purchaser who planned to use it as a hunting hut - how he will be able to move it is questionable - on a lowbed or simply pull it and hope the police don't stop them.
