Be wary, many vintage items, SOBs and Airstream, for sale on eBay and other internet auction sites can be bought at the manufacturer stores for much less money. The sales pitches that lead you to believe that an item is "rare" or "one of a kind" is readily available elsewhere and for much less.

I agree that some things can be found with the manufacturer...but I have had a lot of luck with auctions on actual items that have been discontinued. Just do a little research first.
