Hello all wise owners,
Besides posting to our classifieds, rv trader, and rvt...Does anyone have any words of wisdom and or ideals on how else to reach buyers. We would like to sell our airstream before summer and upgrade to a larger one. Ive got lots of looks, but no bites. I feel we are at the right price point based on what others similar are listed at. Any advice greatly appreciated. (** we do not want to trade it in as we will lose way to much $$)

You are advertising in all the right places. If you have had at least a half dozen people actually come and look at your Airstream and had no offers, you probably need to look at price. I have never sold an Airstream. However, I have sold 12 Classic cars and over 400 homes in a 9 year Real Estate career. If something is on the market more than a couple months and had several showings and no offers, price is more than likely stumbling block. We looked at buying used. We wanted a International Serenity 23D. After looking for used, we wound up buying new 2017 for a small amount more than used were going for. 2 year warranty sealed the deal. We did get 20% off of MSRP of our Airstream. It will sell when the price is right. You are correct that trading in will result in lower price. Keep in mind that normally you do not have to pay sales tax on full purchase if you trade.

You did not mention ebay and craigslist. Both have worked for me, but, these were vintage trailers. Consignment with an RV dealer is another possibility, they get their cut but do all the work.

Price it right and it will sell. Mine sold in two weeks last month. Also a little patience helps. Depending on where you live, it may be slightly early in the season still, though I imagine sales are also starting to heat up.

I really think you are pretty high for your trailer. That looks to me like what should have been new cost. Not sure people will pay for that warranty. Maybe some for the solar but though some want to think used has held near full value.
I’m not in the market and maybe don’t know pricing but if you don’t sell by March 30 I think you must be expecting too much.

Just saying. I thought about a 2008 Christopher dean 25 two yes ago that was 40000. Bought a 1999 safari and did a full remodel including ultra leather long couch and diners. New interior with cashew ultra leather. New counters refaced all with Formica per 2012 look. New bearings breaks and four new skins where dented. About 25000 in it plus a fair bit of sweat equity. Just wish I had panoramic on dinette end.

On Facebook, both Airstreamguy.com or Airstream Hunter have a lot of traffic and I see lots of "sold" signs going up. Mark allows people to post their own for sale stuff on his Airstream Guy facebook.

Sometimes I wonder if you have accessibility to a local dealership, and assuming that they would accept consignment, would that be a better outlet? Have no idea what the dealer wants for his cut of a sale, but I would think that that would be the fastest turn around. Anyone tried this avenue?

I've had good luck with Craigslist. Make sure you post ''NO SOLICITORS'' on the bottom of your add. They can be relentless, and sometimes ''no'' is not in their vocabulary. Good luck and welcome to the forum topherchanin.

I own the same trailer and bought mine for 52000.00 two years ago when it was 1.5 years old. I know you don’t want to here this but 60K is too much $ for your unit. In my opinion anyway.

It's amazing how a picture of the trailer with contact info works on bulletin boards at a post office and grocery store. Also a "for sale" sign on the trailer is a good step to take. There is a small shop located on a well traveled main road by my house and the owner allows people to park cars and trailers for sale on his property on weekends and they cannot sit overnight. My observation is they don't usually show up again after a couple of weekends. He probably charges a token amount to customers - you could consider finding a similar situation close to you

Do you have a consignment dealer in the area. PPL motorhomes works well for us in Texas and sells lots of RV's of all types and value. Airstreams move well from their three locations, however, ppl is really too far from you but I would check for dealers like this that are closer they will have access to more buyers then you will reach by advertising yourself.

Other replies you've gotten have stressed the importance of researching the market before you set a price, and I'll attest to that being sound advice. In addition, never underestimate the power of really good photos.

Make sure you've de-cluttered the interior and thoroughly clean the interior before your photo-shoot. (You may love your chachkas, but don't count on a potential buyer sharing your taste.) Lighting photos properly is important; if your interior looks gloomy in your photos you may turn off buyers. Don't cover upholstery with throws; people will just wonder what you're hiding. And be prepared to crop and adjust your photos to put your AS's best foot forward.

Above all, be honest about dings and anything that will require attention by a new owner.

From time to time, I get the urge to sell my FC 27 and get a Classic 30, so on occasion, I skim the ads for them. Amazingly, I find some sellers who price their used Classic 30s for more than aggressive dealers are willing to sell new ones for (ie, 20% off MSRP) --- with a 2-yr warranty. After decades of professional selling experience (cars, homes, etc.), I've learned that now, especially with the information available on the Internet, buyers typically have a lot better idea "What is reasonable market value for any particular item?" than sellers do. That's substantially changed negotiations in commercial transactions, such as buying a new car from a dealer or a home from a private party.

If you have the contact info from any of the folks who looked but didn't buy. You might contact them to ask what they liked and didn't like and why they choose not to buy yours. It might not hurt to ask them to reconsider. It might help but try not to be offended with any response.

We have had good luck with Craigslist as well. Have sold 2 teardrops and purchased our 2012 Airstream there. You will have to deal with a lot of lookers and some super strange folks but it only takes 1 buyer. Always go with your gut if it sounds a bit off when someone calls its probably a scam or worse.

Having been in the market to buy a 23 AS recently, checked what I could find for your MSRP and what I found said $73k. Many buyers say they are getting 20% off MSRP. Being a bit less aggressive, say 15% would mean the cost (less tax, etc) should be $62,500 new ($58,400 for the aggressive buyers).

Figure at least a 10% drop first year and what the market will bear after that (and market demand for your specific model). Guessing it should be in the $50-$54 range, closer to $50k to sell it now, possibly $54k in a couple months, but miss that window of April to June and youre back on your way down to $50k or less with demand dropping off.
I am betting we start to see inflation hit us shortly, so prices should go up. Both on your model and the one youre buying.... also seeing import tariffs going up on aluminum.

When I bought my trailer the dealer would not take trades. So I bargained for the lowest price new and took my old trailer to a consignment dealer.
It had been stored inside full time. I added a few thousand to the price and waited. After a few months a buyer showed up for an immediate purchase. I had installed a generator and wanted more money than comparables with out a genny. It was well worth my wait in getting what I wanted. I had owned it 15 years and got 80% of my original investment back. If you like a particular trailer don't haggle for a period of time. It will be gone when you are finally ready to by it. He who hesitates, looses. BTW, a trailer stored all the time is always worth a lot more than an "outside" trailer. Be sure a figure that in the deal.
