We live and work in Cali. We have found our dream Trailer and placed a deposit through Paypal.
We are looking for a driveaway shipper through Uship.com.
So far that looks good.
But, how do we pay off the rest and get the pink slip and be protected? They are in NC. We can wire money and all that but right now we cannot travel.
Do we hire a local lawyer and use him as an agent? Has anyone else done this?
thanks,
pink
pink, go get the trailer yerself.
no lawyer on earth can guarantee this kind of a deal. there is no substitute for SEEING THE TRAILER IN PERSON & then handing over the cash.

Very risky buying an Airstream site unseen plus that's farther than I would feel comfortable making a purchase. You have some protection using PayPal but I wouldn't pay the balance until you've inspected it yourself or you could be kicking yourself for a long time.
Congratulations on your almost purchase - pretty risky buying one that far away - site unseen. I hope it works out for you. I recommend going there yourself.
Thanks for all the great feedback. This is a great forum and someday perhaps we will meet at one of the cool rallys!
We talked about all this on the way to work and school this morning. I quoted someone from the forums and told him, "your buying this because we love to travel, so, travel over there and check it out and pay the man yourself." I think this is what we are going to do.
The trailer is in Mt Pleasant. This is the link from the classifieds, 2004 Airstream International CCD 22' - Airstream Trailer & Airstream Motorhome Classifieds
I did print out the inspection sheet for him. So much to think about...

Over the years, we've done several cross country Airstream purchases. Our current 34' front kitchen was advertised by Colonial AS in NJ & we're in the northwest! We did put a deposit with the dealer and then drove 3000+ miles in 2.5 days!) to inspect the trailer & pay the balance.
We felt that, with a deposit in a reputable dealer's hand, if there was a problem with the unit, we wouldn't have a problem with the unit if it had problems, etc.
We also placed a deposit on a vintage unit in eastern Iowa (we were in Omaha at the time) & drove 300 miles to view it. The trailer, we felt, was misrepresented as it had several undisclosed cracks in the skin. Didn't buy this one & got our deposit back.
If you are new to Airstreams & RV's, it might be a good idea to have an inspector view the trailer BEFORE you trek all that distance! As well, a person with experience and a detached eye may spot something that your enthusiasm might overlook. Nothing worse than driving many miles & being disappointed!
On the right hand side of the Forums Main page is a form for finding Airstream Inspectors. Fill in the blanks, and I think you'll find one in Mt.Pleasant ---- and I think you bought it from someone in S.C. NOT N.C. I talked to this Inspector awhile ago, but he could never 'hook up' with the Seller to inspect it ---- 'cause I was interested at the time. I go disenchanted after two weeks of the guy stalling around and looked elsewhere. Good luck on your Buy.
Hey, I just want to thank you all again... Because I think ya'll got me a 4 day weekend all expenses paid trip to SC! I read all the posts to him over the phone and he is convinced that "seeing it for yourself," is the best way to go. And I get to go too! Anyone know any good B&B's there? I will keep you posted!

I have owned 2 RV's in the past. Not that previous ownership denotes me as some kind of an expert. I am going to see about getting one of the inspectors from this site to check it out.
