Flexx autoconsignments, scam or not

Posted before, one reply. Would like more input.

The deal. Buying trailer listed on craigs list. Seller using Flexx auto consignment to broker it. You can't go look at the actual trailer, just pictures and their wood as to condition. Flexx receives full payment and then delivers trailer for your inspection. You have 7 days to return trailer for full refund.

Kind of scary to me. Anyone out there ever delt with them before?

Thanks

Flexx appears to be a real business. I suggest contacting them and seeing if the trailer is in their possession.

Buying a trailer from Craigslist without an in-person inspection is a nearly guaranteed way to be ripped off.

They said it best:
Avoiding Scams

Deal locally, face-to-face —follow this one rule and avoid 99% of scam attempts.
  • Do not extend payment to anyone you have not met in person.
  • Beware offers involving shipping - deal with locals you can meet in person.
  • Never wire funds (e.g. Western Union) - anyone who asks you to is a scammer.
  • Don't accept cashier/certified checks or money orders - banks cash fakes, then hold you responsible.
  • Transactions are between users only, no third party provides a "guarantee".
  • Never give out financial info (bank account, social security, paypal account, etc).
  • Do not rent or purchase sight-unseen—that amazing "deal" may not exist.

Cudmac just fyi you could have just posted another question to your original thread. Sometimes they just get overlooked or nobody has an answer.

Now that you've further explained how this particular consignment works that doesn't sound to appealing.

Looking at or trying to have someone look at the trailer seems pretty routine. Seems a lot of effort to go through a purchase to have it not meet your needs.

Pictures show a lot but leave a lot of questions.

Sounds like you have to make full payment before inspecting. Absolutely no way that is going to happen unless the trailer is at a drastic discount.

Airstreams are not like cars. The prior owner may not even know they have a major problem such as floor rot.

Thumbs up Flexx auto consignment

Thanks to you all for your input. There are other details which I didn't include that had alarms going off in my head, but I was disregarding them in my quest to find a trailer. I have sent a email to Flexx withdrawing my offer to purchase.

Thanks again,

CUDMAC

I see that you are from West Michigan, as I am too.

I have had very good experiences with Woodland Travel Center in Grand Rapids having purchased two Airstream TTs from them.

I sold my previous Airstream on consignment through them, so I know that some of their used inventory my be consignments.

It might be worth talking with them.
