While I think scammers should be harrassed and have their time wasted as much as possible, I wouldn't be bidding on too many of these auctions. Here's the thing - you know how you get these phishing scams all the time that try to steal your password info (which is probably how these people got their account hijacked in the first place) and ebay and paypal have a special address they want you to send them to when you get them. I figured this was so that someone would hunt down the bas**rds doing it and shut them down. Apparently not. After we'd forwarded a number of these emails to Paypal they made US change our password and do some security stuff to get access to our own account again! Apparently they decided WE were a security risk because we received a lot of Phising scam emails! Well, yeah, we probably get ten or twenty a day to our business account, but we don't fall for them! So we don't bother to forward them to ebay and paypal anymore because clearly they aren't interested in going after the scammers in any way - they're probably in some far away country where they can't be touched anyhow. Much easier to come harass their own customers who clearly know it's a phishing scam email, because we're the ones who forwarded it to their scam dept!
But I figure if you keep winning these scam bids they'll probably decide you're gullible and lock you out of your own account!
I just went back to the ebay auction and the seller has cancelled all of the bids, he states that it is a buy it now only auction! I wonder how long it will take ebay to kill this thing?
To report the scam to the user, just click on "Ask seller a question" on the upper right portion of the listing. It will allow you to contact them directly. The only times I've done it, the email went to the real user, not the scammer.
To report the fraud to eBay, go to the bottom of the listing and click on "Security Center". Choose "Report another problem" and press the "Report Problem" button. I then choose "Fraud concerns for buyers" in Step 1 and "Report a listing you think is fraudulent" in Step 2.
I did this yesterday and it took several hours to cancel the listing.
You'd think eBay would get better at catching them!
Note the classifications where this is listed on ebay....
This keeps the really greedy people curious because they think they have stumbled onto a "real bargain" that got mis-classified.
All these ads play on greed.....
This is the same bambi I had reported on in an earlier post....
However, now you can actually place a bid thru ebays' site....
This is a perfect example of how ebays' "security" system has been breached.
This is one of possibly hundreds or thousands of bogus auctions occurring on ebay at this very moment....
I sold a boat two years ago on the class association website. All listings were met with the "Classic over-pay" scam. Another owner posted this link from the saab website about toying with the scammers.
It's a bit off-topic and a little long, but amusing.
He's getting smarter. He was definitely alone in his other scams (only running one at a time). I was able to 'search' him out from a blank search. He's definitely harder to find now, but I'm working on it.
Now I'm starting to think that maybe he's here!
Not worried about him hacking into my account. The passwords are pretty tough. Sometimes I have trouble getting in!
Oh, and you're clear to bid that up to $25K again...

You know, I never even thought of that (duh!). I've never fallen for a phish, but that is probably exactly how they're getting into these accounts.
Hmm... You might be right about me getting locked out, but I'd rather not see anyone get taken. It's not a personal thing -- I think it's more like that ebola man thing. How many times can this guy come back with an AS? Maybe 1 or 2 more times? Wouldn't it be easier if he were trying to sell a Cadillac?

New listing today, 1 day only no reserve! $5200 buy me now. that was blown by a bid most likely by the "seller" himself! It's a 2005 Safari Bambi. Is it too small for 65GT? http://cgi.ebay.com/2005-AIRSTREAM-1...QQcmdZViewItem
I'm actually getting concerned about you.
How often are you hitting that refresh key waiting for a new AS listing to pop up on Ebay? I think you should just tell us all what it is you're looking for -- we'll help.
I think you got it bad!

I sold a non-existant horse to a guy from Nigeria last year who Fed-Ex'd me a counterfeit check... can you believe the nerve of that guy? I've still got the check and the emails... it was fun, but it takes more time than I've got...
