It's interesting that in essence you become the eBay police ferreting out these scams. It is good to see that Ebay respond quickly. I'm sure that there are a lot of folks out there who have no idea that people like yourselves are putting in some extra effort to try to ensure they are not taken advantage of. Kudo's to you for doing this.

I report anyone who wants you to call them directly as that is a violation and a scam. I even report the lady selling the embroidered Airstream Ball Caps, it is copyright infringement. If Thor is so hard on the sites which use Airstream in their names it is only fair to report others who use the name with out a license. If she is legal it is Ebays job to figure it out.

I would love to get a vinyl cut machine and a embroidery machine and start pumping out all this branded merchandise without paying the fees.

We also reported her to Airstream, Inc. All of our products are authorized and licensed by Airstream.
People who do business honestly and legitimately should not have to compete with those who do not.
Thanks, Jim, and all others for your diligence in bringing dishonesty on eBay to light.

Ebay account hijacking . . .

Hijacked ebay accounts are at an all time high right now: be very careful out there folks! I have noticed that over half the auctions for some items, such as Swarovski EL Binoculars, involve hijacked accounts. I have reported about 10 such cases in the last 12 hours. Ebay has already removed the auctions, which verifies the accounts WERE hijacked!

A few rules to help protect yourself, some of which have already been discussed:

1) NEVER bid on an item where the seller states that they will only sell if you contact them first via email. If you do email them, you better change your email address within and without ebay, or your account could be hijacked!

2) NEVER wire money to the seller. Ebay has a system in place for payment purposes. If you pay via PayPal, for example, the hijacker doesn't get the money; and the account owner will not understand why they received the money. Most account owners don't know their account has been hijacked, and don't know how to deal with the problem once discovered.

3) NEVER bid on an item where there is no "BuyItNow", but the supposed seller says that there is (a "BuyItNow").

Usually the hijacker states that you can buy the merchandise at less than half the normal value of the product. This is why you should do your research, know the value of the product, and not expect to get something for nothing. Don't be hasty to bid, even if you really want the item and are very excited at the thought of paying way less then it's value.

An Ebay Response . . .

Check out an article where ebay responds:

BREITBART.COM - Online auction site eBay heightens security precautions as fraud mounts

This article also says eBay had $12.64 billion in sales during a one quarter period!

But I do get something - an opportunity to buy and sell stuff I can't find locally. I guess I'm willing to get a little involved to keep from loosing that . . .

I don't think that one actually qualifies as a scam - but it does go to prove that you can buy anything on eBay!

so.... does this seem suspicious to anyone else... i haven't reported it because it has a glimmer of reality - but having to contact the seller before bidding seems like a way for a scammer to make contact with a potential dupe...

Hmmm. No reserve, either. I just emailed the seller asking where it came from and why he's selling it. And asked to be put on the bidders list. (The last thing I need is another trailer). We'll see.

I would say this is a scam. Check out the catagory of the sale. Scammers think that they will not be found in remote dark corners of ebay. This time it's;
Sporting Goods > Equestrian > Riding-English > Saddle Parts & Accessories > Stirrups > Other
Other things include 7 day return policy and also shipping to the America's. This seller could very well be building a list for the "second chance scam".
