Another story about second offers from ebay

I received another broken english attempt at scamming a second offer on ebay.
Nigerian or middle eastern type offered second offer on Motorcycle I bid on.

I did not win auction.
When I received second offer from scammer,
I asked if he would accept a pig, hog, swine, pork sandwich, in trade,
He left me alone very quickly

I emailed the guy on this and got the following reply yesterday. It IS a scam, right?
JB

Hi There,
The price is $6,000. I can afford to sell it at this price because I've buy it from a bankrupt company. I am located in New York. If you are interested, if you like it and want to buy it just let me know. The shipping will be free. I will bring it personal to your door with my Dodge truck. I don't work with a shipping company because the taxes are to high. For our protection we will make this deal under ebay vehicle protection program. How it works:
1. Please email me:
The product exact name:...
Your eBay ID:...
Your full name:...
Your full address:...
2. I will contact ebay with this details and after that they will contact you with the deposit details.
3. In the eBay invoice you will have eBay agent name and address. You must follow the invoice steps and put the money to the agent name using western union. (I can't accept other payment method) I know, western union is not recommended by ebay but seeing that you will send the money to ebay not to me I don't see any problem here. eBay will hold the money and they will wait for your final decision. No need to send the full amount. Send only $2,900.
4. eBay will contact me and will confirm the deposit.
5. As soon as I receive the ebay deposit confirmation I will come to you for inspection.
6. If you like it you must contact ebay and ask to give me the money, or if you don't want it just ask ebay for full refund and you will receive all your money back including western union fees. No need to pay the ship back fees if you don't want it. If you will buy it you must give me the balance of $3,100 in CASH when I will be there. I don't accept checks.
7. The deal is done.
If you have any other questions please email me.

Thanks a lot and hope we will make this deal and more business in the nearest future....
Thomas

Please give info on the trailer. Seems more than reasonable.

The item in question has already been pulled by eBay - I reported it earlier.
  • If it was valid, why does he need you to tell him the exact product name?
  • eBay does not get involved in sales transactions other than to send an invoice to those winning an auction listing
  • There is no such thing as an "eBay agent". eBay does NOT have an agent, or hold deposits. Once you submit a payment to Western Union it's gone. With the transaction number they can receive that money anywhere. Heck with the transaction number I could take your money!
Info directly from the eBay site:

What to avoid
    • Paying with instant money transfer services such as Western Union and MoneyGram that send cash instantly from storefront locations, by telephone and over the Internet.
    • Transactions where the seller only accepts cash.
    • Unsolicited offers. If the seller offers to sell you the item directly without bidding on and winning the item on eBay, please don't respond.
    • Fake escrow services. Use caution when considering an escrow service to pay for your item. For eBay transactions, you should only use the following eBay approved escrow companies: www.escrow.com (US and UK); www.escrowaustralia.com.au (AU); www.escrow-europa.com (IT and ES); http://ebay.iloxx.de (DE); www.tripledeal.com (FR, NL, BE). Learn more about escrow.

no i didn't report it... i'm not sure it is really a scam - as long as you know this is a time share deal which may not be illegal... the ad is misleading.. i'd report it if it really is a scam... that is why i'm posting here...

There is a section near the bottom that says "report post". I guess thats it, i've never done it before. I looks like a scam to me.

Look what it's listed under.

Listed in category: Books > Nonfiction BooksAlso listed in: Business & Industrial > Industrial Supply, MRO > Industrial, MRO Wholesale Lots > Tools

Seems to me if it was legit, it would be listed in eBay Motors where the rest are.

E-bay scams

I reported some of these about a month ago. I went to report post and said I thought these where suspicious. E-bay responded very quickly and advised that they would investigate. They said that they couldn't give me more info due to privacy issue. The ads were gone within the hour. I see these come up every few weeks and never last more than a few days. I guess E-bay is canceling the ads.

They're gone again. I guess we just have to be vigilant. Hate to see folks who want an Airstream getting ripped off.

I reported it. I report them all the time. Ebay has to figure out if they are fraud or not. This one violated ebay's policy anyway.
