I've sold several cars in the high five figure and low six figure range and did not know the buyers until the deal was done. Highly recommend that you use wire transfers between banks and/or a brokerage house. I will not do a cash deal for more than $8,000 as that triggers some interesting looks at the bank. I know, they tell you $10,000 is the number that requires you to fill out federal forms. I call BS on that!

There are a lot of good reasons why a buyer will not disclose his name until the deal is done. Jacking up the price as mentioned above is one!

Just as a sidebar, I did have two bad wire transfers. The transfer went through, the funds were posted to my account, and the next day the funds were removed from my account. The originating bank simply pulled the funds back.

I also had a title insurance company issue me a bad cashier's check at the closing of the sale of my house. Before that, I didn't know a bank could stop payment on a cashier's check. They can . . . and they did.

Perhaps the buyer is someone famous? Dale Ernhart Jr. has an older Airstream. I bet he didn't call up the seler himself.

Then again, why wouldn't an agent give you a name?

Why does a name matter? Cash speaks for its self. Take the money and run

What Doug said, for sure...

I have done dozens of wire transfers. According to the bank manager it is the safest way to do it. He also clearly stated, once wired it CONNOT be reversed. Maybe an International wire transfer is different that a domestic one. I made a point to have him repeat it to me, once in process, it CANNOT be reversed. I guess the experience Splitrock had was different than mine. I always make sure the money has cleared before the transaction takes place. I often wonder if the guy on the other end views me with just as much suspicion...

I don't understand why so many are saying RUN don't sell.

If someone has "cash" it doesn't sound like a scam if it was a scam a made up name would be given.

Some folks do not want to be hassled with call backs with new offers or having to explain why they did not buy.

Be cautious but don't just say "give me a name or you don't qualify to buy the unit".

When I sold my last trailer the buyer and myself went to my bank, deposited the money and we both signed a "Bill of Sale" and the "trailer title" This was witnessed and notarized by a bank employee.
"Show me the money" - and take it from there with caution.

You know, I told you people all the way back in post 10 who this guy is and what he does for a living. I know some people don't like to be confused by facts once they have formed an opinion, but all you have to do is go to the comments area of the OP's ad, and Google the phone number given. The person's name, address, and website come up in any search. It isn't rocket surgery.

I'm also selling a Marvel Refrigerator in the classified. Dealing with these scammer can be a little aggravating. The best way I have found to double check if the person is on the up and up is to google their email. For instance google jeffymcdolls@yahoo.com and you will see other people have dealt with this slime bag giving the same story over and over again. Just my two cents and good luck with your sale.

Costly NEW AREA CODE:

809 Area Code
If you receive a call from the 809 area code.

The woman might say 'Hey, this is Karen.

Sorry I missed you- get back to us quickly.

I have something important to tell you.'

Then she rwill repeate a phone number beginning with809.

Do not respond.

Do Not DIAL AREA CODE 809, 284,

AND 876 from the U.S. or Canada .

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION PROVIDED TO US BY AT&T. DON'T EVER DIAL AREA CODE809

This one is being distributed all over the US ... This is pretty scary, especially given the way they try to get you to call.

They get you to call by telling you that it is information about a family member who has been ill or to tell you someone has been arrested, died, or to let you know you have won a wonderful prize, etc..

In each case, you are told to call the 809number right away.

Since there are so many new area codes these days,

people unknowingly return these calls.

If you call from the U.S. or Canada ,you will apparently be charged a minimum of

$2425 per-minute.

And you'll also get a long recorded message.
The point is, they will try to keep you on the phone as long as possible to increase the charges.

WHY IT WORKS:

The 809area code is located in the Dominican Republic .
The charges afterward can become a real nightmare.

That's because you did actually make the call.

If you complain, both your local phone company and your long distance carrier will not want to get involved and will most likely tell you that they are simply providing the billing for the foreign company.

You'll end up dealing with a foreign company that argues they have done nothing wrong.
I have seen this a few times now online. This information is not completely true. Snopes.com has a complete write up on this scam. Most of the time the charge is about $25.

I was in real estate here in NC. Here a buyer does not have to reveal themselves for a transaction to be legal. Someone mentioned JR in an earlier post. I've worked with his people in a transaction the reasoning is if someone famous wants to purchase something they lose their ability to negotiate once their name gets out.

Personally I'd have no issue dealing with Someone who would not reveal themselves or worked via an agent. Provided of course that all funds were wired directly to my account prior to title transfer.

Even certified checks can bounce. I would use money orders.
