have a great trip. We got our limes and flowers conficated in the U.S. on out way back home a few years ago. Even though they were purchased in the U.S. We now carry our Passports as well. I would cross the border with aas little food and drink as possible to avoid trouble. Keep you stick on the ice. Brad
Many posts mention passports to return to the US for identification; others suggest a birth certificate plus other photo id is okay. Since we'd like to go into Ontario on our upcoming vacation (and of course get back home afterwards!), we need to know. We don't have passports and probably don't have time to get them. Will we pass with our birth certificates? Thanks for your answers. ~G

Here is a good link that explains what you need to get in and out of Canada. http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/...onal_1170.html
Notice the rules are going to change at the end of this year for air and ship entry. The end of next year it will change for ground entry as well. You will be fine this year without a Passport.
Gasoline containers (red metal or plastic gas cans for generators..) are prohibited to be carried on Ferries... They will likely be confiscated if discovered or declared...
Propane in tanks is OK, though most times we also had to show tank valves closed and wired with tags to prove no propane flowing or burning before driving onto Ferry.. Something to remember for those who travel with fridge running on propane...

We are back and the trip was a blast. Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa and Barrie were our destinations for this trip. We have to return soon. There are so many cool places to visit in Canada.
Going across the border took all of 5 minutes. The agent wanted to be sure that the 11 year old belonged to us and he was also concerned that we may wish to sell our Airstream. The return trip on the US side was not as easy although pleasant enough. We returned with hundreds of other Americans on Labor Day and this took 2 hours. No agent entered the trailer at any time however and they were both pleasant and professional.
Your collective advice was correct and we took no chances....but we were not asked about meat etc.....We think that everyone should apply for and have all papers ready if there are plans to travel to Canada in 2007.
we just got back and above great advice...just to add a few things , if you are taking along a pet , don't forget current shot records. No firewood or grapes or strawberries ( those are what we were asked about)Have a great time !!!!!
If you are taking another persons child with you make sure you have written permission for the child to travel with you. Also birth records and passports if possible. It is also a good idea to get a medical consent form from their parents in case of a medical emergency.
