Starry-eyed or Adle-pated?

Sounds like only two schools of thought on this. People with experience and knowledge on both sides. The thought of it really gives me the bug to go. Sallie and I want to make the trip of a lifetime. Three years away?

That was 50 years ago, the roads are paved all the way now. Better to set up a mobile coffee canteen to travel with them.

There's a Capetown in California and Cairo in Florida that would make a good test caravan without the shooting.

Bert's African Caravan Newsletter #6 said there are only 5 spots remaining on the southbound leg. There are 25 trailers going both ways. You can get your money back if the trip is called off, or if you decide not to go by July 1, 2007.

5 spots

I heard that some/many of the spots are filled by people who don't have a trailer or are even a WBCCI member. I thought to go on a WBCCI caravan one had to be a member of the WBCCI and to belong to the WBCCI, one had to own an Airstream product. This maybe way there are only 5 spots left.

Oh Wow!! Africa!!

We got in and are thrilled at the prospect! All that stuff about clip-emptying was a bit disconcerting, but I know the great Decider would never let sobering reality get in HIS way. So maps and books and conversations and more... plenty to do in the next three years. See you around the campfire.

I understand that Chevrolet is supplying the vehicles, they will get a lot of mileage out of this caravan. As Larry Huttle said "I've always told you this for years and I believe it. You guys have such a great product, you've got to sell it better. People don't know about it." Why else would it be a $1000 question on Jeopardy, which all of the contentants missed.

Well then, that would be either the unstoppable Dodge Power Wagon or the Ford owned Land Rover. Sorry, my mistake.

Think of what is sold in South Africa and who’s spare parts are available throughout Africa.
- Nissan Patrol, Toyota Land Cruiser and Landrover Defender, but not our U.S. big three TVs.

Ask yourself: “What is in it for them?” Why support rich tourist from the U.S. of A.?
- Unlimited world-wide advertising as our primary supporter.

Determine their cost to supply us with 25+ TVs and factor in the resale or salvage value.
- Maybe a low of $ 500,000 to over $ 1 million. Pocket change if you have deep pockets.

Compare that to several 15 second Super Bowl or 2008 Olympic ads on international television. Is it worth it?

How about the alien unit on EBay? With proper engineering you may be able to make that a hover craft. Think of the transmissions you may be able to send from up above.

2air,

There is a good looking 1979 Safari on ebay now with an $8,000 bid. The ad calls it a 1978 25' International Safari. It is in Tennessee.

I am pleased to report that Airstream Life magazine has become the first official sponsor of the Cape Town to Cairo caravan!

We've been working with Bert Kalet and Roger Wilson, leaders of the north- and south-bound routes, ever since the announcement came that there would be no support from WBCCI. We'll be providing space in the magazine for the caravan to recruit additional members, make announcements, etc.

We've also got a few other VERY interesting ideas in the works, which I hope to be able to announce later. All I can say is, it's going to be a lot of fun to watch whether you're going on the caravan or not!

Congrats to all who are going. Wish we could join you!
