Let's see. There are towns named Cairo in New York and West Virginia. Can't think where there might be one named Capetown, but perhaps a town on a cape would suit. That trip might allow the caravanners to see their next birthday.
wow, it's happenning. I would love to be a part of this. I am not a subscriber to any of the magazines yet. Can I ask somebody what the depost goes twords and is there a payment structure set up? What do I need to sign up with for all the specs? I have over 30 years to go before I can retire. I wonder if this is even a possibility for me... sigh....

Finished reading Wally's book, TRALER TRAVEL, Here and Abroad published in 1960. The book ends describing the meeting with Haile Selassie in Addis Ababa.
This book starts with the first Mexican tour and covers Europe, Canada, US west and US East, as well as Cuba during the Baptista rein.
Since I don't have a dog in this fight, I'll keep my thoughts to myself on the merits of caravaning through Africa.
However, as soon as I know what the TV's are going to be, I'm going to stock up on heat-treated axles and offer them up as AS African specials. According to the book, they broke seven axles on one leg of the tour! And these were on IH 4x4 pickups with utility beds.
Sounds like only two schools of thought on this. People with experience and knowledge on both sides. The thought of it really gives me the bug to go. Sallie and I want to make the trip of a lifetime. Three years away?

That was 50 years ago, the roads are paved all the way now. Better to set up a mobile coffee canteen to travel with them.

There's a Capetown in California and Cairo in Florida that would make a good test caravan without the shooting.

Bert's African Caravan Newsletter #6 said there are only 5 spots remaining on the southbound leg. There are 25 trailers going both ways. You can get your money back if the trip is called off, or if you decide not to go by July 1, 2007.
I heard that some/many of the spots are filled by people who don't have a trailer or are even a WBCCI member. I thought to go on a WBCCI caravan one had to be a member of the WBCCI and to belong to the WBCCI, one had to own an Airstream product. This maybe way there are only 5 spots left.

We got in and are thrilled at the prospect! All that stuff about clip-emptying was a bit disconcerting, but I know the great Decider would never let sobering reality get in HIS way. So maps and books and conversations and more... plenty to do in the next three years. See you around the campfire.

I understand that Chevrolet is supplying the vehicles, they will get a lot of mileage out of this caravan. As Larry Huttle said "I've always told you this for years and I believe it. You guys have such a great product, you've got to sell it better. People don't know about it." Why else would it be a $1000 question on Jeopardy, which all of the contentants missed.
