Update!!! My wired unit quit working. The sensor worked fine but the digital display decided to not show all the digital pixels. So now i am looking for another wired unit with no success. Who would have thunk it.

I bought my wired unit at Cabelas in the marine department. The sensor is waterproof and designed to measure water temperatures. Cost was nominal.

We bought a new unit last summer after the first one quit. The second one worked fairly well for a while and then started not recording outside temps intermittently. I think it is just Chinese junk. It is getting harder to find quality merchandise.

I could live without knowing the outside temp—I can just stick my head out the door—but when it is cold out it is very useful to know outside temps to make sure the hoses don't freeze and when to run the furnace instead of a ceramic heater.

Bob,

Ours has flashing numbers and inside and outside temps (when it works). Doesn't the stick on type in cold months give somewhat warmer temps than outside air because it is on the window within the trailer's heat envelope?

Yeah, but there would be nothing to complain about or debate! Where's the fun in that?

I use an Oregon Scientific wireless base unit with two remote sensors. One in the fridge, and one in a small bag hanging on the expandable wheel chocks. The wheel well keeps it shaded, and since it’s hanging on the chocks, I’m less likely to forget to put it away. No problems after nearly a dozen years of use, always get readings on all three channels, and it tells me who needs batteries.

Maybe about $5.12 warmer.

Hmmmm.Well, all i can buy in this town is cheap chinese crap. I am going to have to order something decent. Oregon Scientific sounds promising. Like i said earlier, i used to have a wired unit from La crosse and it was great but you cant buy em anymore. Everything is wireless which involves batteries in both units and half the time wont communicate through the shell. There is no way in hell i am sticking my finger out the door I mean really, i do have pride.

I have ZERO issues with my wireless' communication. I've never seen a dropped signal. Still on the same set of batts after 2 seasons. I do take them out during the winter (4.5 months a year)
