Upgrade Sport Lighting

Hi everyone! My wife and I just picked up our 16 Sport last week. So far, so good! I love the white laminate look inside, but the white plastic lights inside don't seem to go well. Seems a little too cheap for the price point of the camper. It's a beautiful camper with the laminate, aluminum, etc. otherwise.

My question is: has anyone upgraded these white plastic double light fixtures to something more substantial, such as the nickel look with actual glass covers?

It's definitely a small thing, but just curious. What have you guys done?

I hated those plastic lights too.

Used this fixture by Gustafson over the dinette.

I saw a Facebook post on Airstream Addicts about someone's updates to their 16 Sport. They put an LED strip on the little ledge above the upper cabinets. It looks like a great idea! I may look into this too.

Wow! Refreshing to know we aren't the only ones! We hate those wretched cheapy plastic lights. You'd think that after decades of mass produced RVs that someone would design a light fixture that doesn't look like it fell out of the overstock bin at the $1 store, lol. Rant over.

We have about a half dozen double sided lights we'd like to replace, so this ain't gonna be cheap - supposing we ever find something we like...

The appearance of white plastic lights can often be improved by spray-painting them silver which also matches an Airstream better. To do so, it is best to remove them from the trailer (for LEDs, note the polarity of the wires) and disassemble them enough so that switches and lenses don't get sprayed.

Thanks for the information! At this time, we have decided not to do anything with the lights [for now]. Instead, I decided to buy one of those bluetooth compatible LED bulbs that changes colors and dimnesses. I have it plugged directly into the outlet under the dinette table (with a couple small adapters from the local hardware store).

As Ms. Tara said, "pics or it didn't happen", LOL - so, attached are a few pics.

The front stone guards were backordered when I took delivery of the AS, so they will be installed when the time comes. Until then, my wife and I are slowly personalizing it

It's an Ilumi LED color changing bulb.

The best part is that it's not one of these other color changing LED bulbs that requires Wi-Fi, a HUB, etc. (which are amazing for home use). For camping with the AS, the Ilumi is designed to allow you to change the bulb's colors directly from your phone via the Ilumi app via bluetooth.

Another thing I like is that the whites on this bulb get very bright. With the bulb under the dinette table, it lights up the entire galley/dining area with a nice soft white (or bright white, if you'd like) look and provides enough light to play cards, games, etc. at the dinette with no other lights on.

This is what we have cooked up right now. It plugs right into the outlet in the wall under the dinette. Because the walls are curved at the front there, the bulb fits almost perfectly.
