So......are we nuts?

We've spent hundreds of days in our 2009 28' Ocean Breeze and have had it with the uncomfortable seating that turns into a bed/dinette whatever that we have never used. So we pulled out the dinette, front couch that turns into a bed, and the goofy storage behind the couch. We've replaced the couch with a double recliner, the dinette with ikea kid furniture cabinets topped with a fold down table that is 6' long and 24" wide unfolded and 34" wide folded down. Folded down the top acts as a bar facing the dual windows, very nice.

Our camper is now more spacious (no more turning sideways to pass each other between the sink and the dinette ) and has way more storage that is reachable without kneeling down.

Our only worry is that we don't have sleeping for six anymore. Hah, did anyone ever sleep on that dinette bed? So our resale value will be lower? Should we keep the parts or part them out?

Pictures soon.

but if you like each other, having to turn sideways to pass each other could be the start of a great romantic evening!

Author and avid yachtsman Ernest K. Gann once said, "I want a boat that drinks six, eats four, and sleeps two." Change the word "boat" to "Airstream" and it sounds perfect to me! Especially since your Airstream is an Ocean Breeze!

Can you post pictures? I'd love to see what you've done.

We sometimes made the dinette to a bed when our kids were younger and came camping. Once for a short friend of mine. Doesn't look comfortable for an adult to me. Now when people ask how many people our trailer sleeps he always says "2".

I'd keep what you took out. You never know if people will want it when it comes time to sell.

So "Ocean Breeze" isn't the name you gave an Airstream (lots of Airstream owners name their trailers), but a non-Airstream brand of trailer? If so, you ARE in the wrong forum. Bummer.

The Ocean Breeze IS an Airstream. It's a special trim package for newer Internationals.

Don't mind me. Last time I hit my head on an overhead cabinet door in my Airstream, I think all the smart leaked out with the blood.

That quote exactly summarizes the way we use our streamer.

Pics are coming soon. It's hard to get the redo guy to take pictures before he's completely satisfied. So far it's better than I ever expected. Oh and a new tv wired to the playstation too!

I think that if you have spent 100s of nights in your trailer in the course of 3-4 years that you have license to modify it to suit your tastes.

Don't blame you for the recliner mod, we've been planning on it even as we bought the trailer new. We need a "trailer-for-two" as do many retirees, I don't know why Airstream doesn't recognize this niche in the market.

Airstream Service Center quoted $4200 to put their recliners and console table in our 25' rear bed, and to make things look factory. They do nice work, maybe next year.

I'd save the pieces you took out though, it'll be easier to sell in factory form should you ever decide to.

In 1976 I bought a nearly used up 42' rental houseboat to referb and use. It slept 10 as a rental. After the referb it slept 6, us in great comfort, and our four children. When we sold it 25 years later it slept 2 in great comfort. It was sold to a single man who loved the layout.

If you sell your Airstream, whomever buys it, will either like it the way it is, or change it to suit themselves as you have done.

Not to worry. Enjoy your Airstream as you wish.

Ok, I'm going to try to post some pictures of the remodel, wish me luck

Where the dinette used to be with the TV power plug in it's original location.

Relocated TV power and Playstation HDMI cable, also wood bar for cabinet attachment.

Cabinets, center cabinet with access holes for power outlet and antenna/cable switch.

Top with breakfast bar flipped down.

Top with breakfast bar flipped up for easy access to drawers.

OP: I felt the same way about the uncomfortable seating in my little Bambi II. I pulled out half the dinette section and now have a very comfortable leather recliner swivel rocker to rest my bones in.

And now for the front, where the horribly uncomfortable couch used to be:

All the wires that were behind the couch/storage are rerouted thru the pvc pipe.

Misc. electrical stuff also relocated.

This top overhangs in the front and slides off for access to the hot water heater. You can see the supports for the upper shelf.

Top shelf attached and double recliner in place, time for a rest.

Very nice, I don't get to spend as many days in my AS as you yet, but I'm working on it. Still spend over 60 days a year in mine. Love every minute of it.

Nice! You have done a very nice, neat and clean remodel that looks great and as you say, fits your needs better. Well done.

I think in general when AS makes floor plans, they always consider "4 people" as the occupation. But for a good many of us, it's 2 people 90% of the time.

I don't think we'd be doing it, but I can think of a better arrangement for our front dinette/lounge than what we have in the FC 25. I have a feeling we'll be getting a longer rig in a couple years, so I won't fuss with it.

Again - that looks super! Enjoy!

No worries about decreased value there.

Very nice work.

I am going to Ikea. Tonight.

Are you nuts? Not at all, I purchased my Argosy with the living area gutted except for the fresh water tank. I re-located the tank under the bed to have a living area with just 2 recliners. Good for you, make it the way you will be comfortable. Thats why I sold my SOB, It was not comfortable sitting for hours at the table sideways watching TV.
