Luggage Rack???

Hey all Airdaddy here> Can anyone out there answer this question. I am wondering if there has ever been an luggage rack and ladder added to any of the Vintage AirStreams, and if so which ones and if not, can anyone answer why not??? I would like to add one on my Airstream that is if adding the luggage rack would not add problems.

You mean, on the exterior at the rear end (like with many SOB)?

Well, every airstream's shell skeleton (ribs) are strong enough to support a person walking on the roof, right?

I think, the challenge is in finding a way to affix anything to where the ribs are (vertical rivet lines)...

As for luggage rack, keep in mind about rear-end separation...

For one thing most ladders are going to terminate on, or very near the endcaps and this is one place on you AS roof you absolutely do not want to step foot on.

Like Kevan 245 says " STAY OFF THE END CAPS " Those segments are very expensive $$$$ AND there is NO SUPPORT UNDER THEM that will hold up a ladder .
You can verify the prices of the end segments at Inland RV or Vintage RV. $$

Why add more weight to anyplace on the roof of your Airstream ? JUst aanother reason for a leak to develope.
The same goes for adding weight to the rear bumper area. Not a good idea. Frame sage or seperation.

Put a roof top carrier on your tow vehicle. It will carry the load and not cause problems with the AS .

That's right. I forgot all about how fragile the endcap is. I stand corrected.

Rooftop carrier (steel tubing ones, often used on extreme adventure SUVs) by itself usually weigh more than the stuff it carries... the benefit is marginal.
