Conversion to UK towing spec

I have just bought a 1978 Ambassador imported and still with original USA running and towing gear. I want to convert for UK towing. Can anyone give me advice or details? Thanks...

hi max welcome the the big dance...

there is a full forum on global streams and global streamer needs...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f341/

and i see a few threads which may help.

and many of those regular euro members might be able to help you with specifics.

at least they'll be reading/replying from the same time zone.

cheers

Hi maxmccoll

Welcome to the forums from another UK streamer.

My advice would be don't bother to convert to UK towing spec's, just purchase a 2.5/16" hitch ball with a 1.1/4" or 1" dia shaft to fit your tow vehicle hitch. RV Spares, Accessories, Parts and Servicing - Star Spangled Spanner, who are in North Yorkshire, can supply these.

Post again if you need electric brake info.

Thanks John. But don't the existing brakes need a vac link in the tow vehicle? Are you able to give me a spec for brake conversion?

maxmccoll,

Just wire up a brake controller in your tow vehicle and change the hitch ball from 50mm - that's the conversion done. We use a Hayes Genesis brake controller. Keep the American system on your outfit, it's far better than ours.

I see you are in Shropshire, we are camped at the Caravan Club site at Lady Margaret's Park, Chirk until Sunday 18 October. Come on over and I can go right through the system with you.

OK John. I'll try to get up to Chirk. Have you a mobile number? Max
