Airstream Tire Protectors

I've seen a number of Airstreams with tire protectors that clip to snaps on the side of the trailer above the wheel well. They are the same color as the awnings and appear to be made of the same material. Can anyone tell me the source - Airstream? ZipDee? - and if they are still available. Never seem to remember to ask about these when I'm at Jackson Center.

the fabric wheel well skirts were popular 20+ years ago...

and a/s occasionally had left over sets available for many years.

i saw some for a triple in the store 3 years ago.

but suspect they are mostly gone now and would be blue striped fabric.

yes u should still be able order them, either from j/c z/d.

the 'snap' heads (caps) are pressed into the fabric while the snap studs...

are SCREWED into the a/s skin...

they do sorta dress up the units when parked but i suspect they do VERY LITTLE protecting the tires from UV...

besides the newest rv tires have MORE uv blocker stuff and should easily last 4-7 years without covers.

if in az a SHEET of ply or some real blocker might be useful...

but the skirts are cool, and expensive.

I have the snaps in my trailer. Also on the inside windows. I have some fabric covers with some sought of foil in them for the inside windows. Help keep the heat in and cold out. or vise versa. I would think you would have to make them but you never know.

I have the snaps on each wheel well but the covers are long gone. I got a set of 4 canvas type covers from Harbor Freight for about 9 bucks, i think it was . They work just fine. I have pulled the wires that hold em on the wheels and MaryLou has washed em once.

I have them but they were purchased 20 years ago. I believe Zip Dee carried them. The fabric matches the awnings exactly. They look real sharp when the wind isn't blowing too hard. They do have grommets at the bottom as well for tie downs I suppose..

You could go to Joann's and buy Sunbrella - a punch and snap kit and roll your own for a lot less money.

Add some lead tape strip weight to your bottom seam to help hold them in place.

I am making my own from silver fiberglass based material that is used by insulators to cover high temp piping and heater tanks. It looks good and is almost a perfect blend with the trailer panels. Happy Trails, Ed
