I called at 9:45 a.m. I asked for Vaness. The person who answered the phone asked who was calling. I gave her my name. I am now at the five minute mark for "on hold." (This is a long distance call).

We're at ten minutes. I'll give them 15 before I disconnect and call again.

I went a bit beyond 15 because I was trying to finish a letter while listening to the "on hold" music. So, I hung up and called back. I asked for Vanessa and if she wasn't available, then the office manager or supervisor. In a shocking turn of events, I'm on hold again.

So, after about 10 minutes, the mysterious Vanessa actually picked up the phone. She explained that she would need me to send all of my information (despite the fact that I had already emailed her all of my contact information). She explained that she would need to contact the shipping company and then they would let me know when I could inspect the truck. So, while my patience is getting a bit thin, I sent an email with all of the information and now I'll wait to see what, if anything, Vanessa sends back.

Right off ATI, USA's web site..."We arrange everything for you and solve problems if they appear."
Sounds like the Baltimore office needs someone to drop the hammer to get their attention...or possibly they are understaffed...or just don't give a damn once they've got a customer on the hook!
Hampstead gets my vote for a badge of courage for going the extra miles on this one! It's one thing to lend one's expertise to a 'friend' in need, but to have these additional road blocks thrown in the way goes beyond the pale! Good on you, your 'Karma' bank is getting a BIG deposit on this one...

To the best of my understanding, Vanessa works for the HTI office in New Jersey handling the shipment of Remco's Chevy truck. I don't think she's part of the union. Vanessa needs to make an appointment with the actual company at the Port of Baltimore holding the vehicle.
Plan "A" - If I get an appointment, I'll roll down to the Port, try to access the vehicle and see what I can do in the way of "duct tape and baling wire" repairs to get the vehicle running (and I'll FedEx Remco the paperwork he needs from the glove box of the truck).
Plan "B" - If I get stonewalled or I can't get the truck to sit up and bark, I have two contacts lined up for Remco. One guy is a local mechanic who used to work around the port and knows all about the Teamster issue. He does field work on heavy equipment and has a repair rig complete with hoist. He's a local guy who has done work for me on numerous occasions and I know he will be fair with Remco. The other contact is a Chevy dealership near the port where I bought a car a few years ago. I don't have the personal relationship with these guys (and they are "the dealership") but they are willing to jump in and help, if necessary.
Plan "C" - We convert the 1979 Chevy to a submarine and I sail it to The Netherlands.
Back to HTI, I have managed a municipal government for years. Understaffed or not, a company can still deliver great customer service. What the folks at HTI need is for people to use another company. If enough people have the same experience as Remco or me, young Vanessa will be looking for work elsewhere because HTI will no longer exist.

I just got updates from Ken and the Emails conversation between Ken and Vanessa.
It seems that she is doing a great job making a small problem into a major problem.

Vanessa's probably out getting her nails done...
Remco, can you contact crporate HQ, give them an update on what Hampstead38's trying to do and see if they can, perhaps... expedite matters? Entirely possible that HQ doesn't know what scams their Baltimore office is up to... however, given the location & business, it's entirely possible another "organization" is running the docks. Sounding like they're needing some palms greased.
Maybe get an email address so fellow 'streamers can register their annoyance with the company...? Let 'em know alot of folks are watching this...?
Maybe the truck & problem with HTI's not worth the effort... best of luck to you.

Remco, Thanks for the address. Just sent Mr. Ricardo an email... be cool if others did the same and reminded ATI that the internet is an amazing place. Word gets around.
Hope things work out well for you.
PS, VAnessa needs to go back to serving burgers at Dairy Queen...

Well, it looks like the only reasonable thing to do is for me to go up there and get rid if that guy and take over supervision/discipline of that staff.
Seriously, I hope you get this worked out!

I don't care if Vanessa looks like an East German shotput champion circa 1976. My concern is getting Remco's truck on the ship.
When I'm not busy proving the adage that "no good deed goes unpunished," I'm a city administrator in Maryland. While I assume Vanessa's rolodex has the numbers of her stylist and tanning salon, mine has the numbers of people who run state agencies... like the Maryland Port Authority. I want to give Vanessa and HTI a little more time to resolve this issue, to secure an appointment for me to inspect the vehicle and afford Remco a chance to see a return on his investment. Because I'm basically a nice guy, I'd like to resolve this amicably. I would also like to have the issue resolved by July 24 when I leave for vacation and July 26 when Remco's ship sets sail. If, on the other hand, I don't begin receiving an acceptable amount of cooperation, I'm picking up the phone and making calls until someone at HTI realizes that it is far better to help Remco than it is to ignore him.

There you go...there's nothing like a big stick to get some one's attention, even if it's softer like a rubber hose! Ah, how I like the smell of burnt rubber in the morning...Go get em'!
