shipping

Hi I shipped from Galveston with Elite Shipping do not use this company big mistake. My A/S did not go straight to England it went via Zebrugge where it was left for five days it was ransacked and the engine was terminally damaged. So be sure that when you take it to the docks it goes straight to a port in England. They use very large ships to cross the Atlantic then break the cargo down in Zebrugge Belgium to ship to various countries around Europe, in smaller ships this is where the damage is likely to happen I would also advise insurance as there is no come back with the shipping line.If you are importing into England there is a 10% tax on shipping and the A/S plus 17% V.A.T.making a massive 27% total on all your costs. Most important get write ups of the various shipping companies. I did'nt and am still paying the price. There are web sites that have customers results .Try try typing shipping to the U.K.Be lucky

If your trailer is over 26' long then it's considered a static or mobile home and the import duty is considerably less. Only about 2.5% of CIF(COST + INSURANCE = FREIGHT).

The tax / duty thing looks like a mine field but I looked here:- Commodity | Business Link

There doesn't seem to be any demarkation on length??????

This is a very interesting thread. I just joined the forum as I'm hoping to find an Airstream in the US (via the internet) and have it shipped over to me in the UK or France (whichever proves cheaper), so any information on this is appreciated.

I was informed that importing a pre-owned vehicle 'may' not incur such heavy duty, especially if you can prove you've had the trailer for a few years.

There's a big difference between importing (to England) a Mobile Home / motor caravan and a trailer home.

The difference in duty and taxes is massive.

The official line is that you get charged VAT and import duty on everything.

The import duty is 0.25% based on a trailer and as Stormin Normin wrote 10% on a MH.

Just wondering where the numbers come from for the sale price.....Bill of Sale? I sell cheap.....(Bill of Sale)....but the personal services provided are pretty expensive.

shipping

Hello all.

The cheapest quote for a 31FT Iíve had so far is $3400 currently £2103, this was from Galveston to Southampton from airstreamguy.com
This did not include insurance or any of the duties when it gets to Southampton.

I've contacted both Richard at agsintl@aol.com and Elite shipping but havenít received a reply.

I hope this is helpful.

Lucy.

I've just bought in a 20' GT from NY State, shipped from Baltimore for £3k. That's a Door to Door service including duties, taxes, insurance, port charges the whole 9 yards.

For the VAT/Import duties I'm pretty sure you pay 2.5% of the cost of the A/S for the import duty and then 17.5% on the total cost of importing the airstream.

E.g. - Sorry if this appears patronizing.

Cost of A/S 1000
Cost of shipping 1000
Import duty 25
VAT 354
Total 2379

Silver Connie was really great when I asked her about it.

Lucy.

Are you saying you're only paying £1000 for the shipping? And £1000 for the Airstream?!

Carship / Transglobal, Will Pocock was really helpful.

Car shipping Australia, USA, South Africa, Cyprus, UK Ľ Trans Global Logistics UK Limited

Igastall, you are correct on the calc for duty and tax, I put the decimal point in the wrong place

Mines sat on the docks covered in snow right now with nothing moving in the south of England due to the weather
