shipping FL to WA

I would like to ship my 25 foot Excella form Fl to WA. I'm am getting no where with the freight companies and the brokers. I found one that can do it on a flat bed, BUT I have to find a loading dock and load the trailer myself- WHAT are they thinking-- I have a loading dock and wench in my back yard??
Anyone know any resources?

OOooh - a wench in the back yard - maybe you could use the winch to load her on the flatbed with the trailer. Just kidding....

There have been several posts on companies to haul cross country - use the search option above and use words like - commercial towing or commercial hauling

Talk to some of the boat movers Associated Boat Transport is one near my house here in Washington. We used them a lot when I worked for a company that made giant fiberglass storage tanks.

There's also a style of trailer (I think they're actually called dumsters, but don't let that scare you ) that are a flat bed that gets hoisted on and off the truck with a chain. A friend worked for a cabinet company that used a lot of these. The advantages are they're easy to load because they're basically flat on the ground and usually open on the sides. The type they used had solid ends and roof and were tarped on the sides. You'd want one that was completely flat so that you could drive on and off for loading. I'd bet the Airstream is easily within the weigh limits of this type of rig.

Have you looked into using one of the carrier companies for campers? Most of them are hauled out behind pickups from the factory. A lot of campers are made in the Elkhard, IN, area. I would check around there. Going from FL to WA is a very long haul. And you are probably talking 70+ cent/mile.

It might not be that hard to get it shipped from FL to the Elkhart area, since that would be the return route. Perhaps someone in those circles would be willing to take it out for you on their return back from a factory run to FL?

Just a thought. Other alternative, of course, is to take some time off and drive it out yourself :-)

Freight companies hate dealing with individuals that want trailers sent cross country. You are more trouble than you are worth.

If you are willing to find a dock they will talk to you. Otherwise forget it. They don't need or want your business. That's reflected in their prices.

I need to get 10 Airstreams from Northern CA to Galveston, TX. Any suggestions? By land, it sounds super expensive because they can only do 2 at a time at the most. Was wondering if its possible to do by boat? I've called a bunch of places, but I'm beginning to think its not going to be possible...how can that be??

They would have to go through the Panama Canal or around Cape Horn, 5 trucks would be quicker and cheaper. Call Airstream and ask for a list of approved movers they use.

Why not see if any of the retired forum members are going that way?
You don't need capetown to cairo, hitch up an old trailer or trailers from a member and convoy em somewhere. See the country and do a good turn.

But yes, the move-ee would have to pay for fuel.
