Exporting from Philly to Ireland

I'm considering shipping my 1965 Overlander from Philly to Ireland. What is involved with this kind of process? What type of costs are involved? does anyone know of any good transporters who ship to the British Isles?

Kdenault,
You may want to check out this thread

Granted it was for shipping a TV overseas, but It will let you know which company not to use.

You might be able to get a hold of "remcolent" to ask about what it cost to get the TV shipped oversears.

Good luck getting her across the pond.

Shipping

Shipping via ocean is becoming very expensive, due to carriers "parking" vessels, a general drop in space of 27-ish%. Believe it or not, the vessels, both import and export, are over booked at this time. Carriers creating a space shortage and then raising rates.

As a top of the head guess-timate I would say appx 6 to 8,000.00 just for the Ocean Freight. Upon arrival in Spain you would have to pay duty and a Vat of 17% of the landed cost.

Also, US Customs requires that you be the legal owner of the unit.

If you are still interested PM me.
Brgds

I imported a pop up trailer into Germany in 2003 as part of a company sponsored move to a facility there. I can give you some specific insight on "converting" the trailer for euro specs if you are looking for that as well. I had to convert the coupling, the side lights, the turn signals (to amber), add a rear red fog / driving lamp on a dedicated circuit, and add red triangular reflectors.

Other things to consider:
-brakes
-weight distributing hitch on the tow vehicle?
- propane systems - 30 mbar, 50 mbar, vs US norm
- electrical service - convert vs. transform?

I see the note about having to pay VAT. Please look into this; I did NOT have to pay VAT or any import tax as I was able to demonstrate I had owned the trailer for more than 6 months before we moved.

An airstream in Europe is pretty cool and a real attention getter - I hope you pull it off!
