Virginia - RV Tags Changed?

In 2006 when I bought my prior Airstream, Virginia RV tags were permanent. You bought them ONE time, and that was it. Still had to pay personal property tax every year, but only paid for tags once.

Yesterday I got my new tags (From Colonial Airstream of NJ) and there were annual stickers on them. The tags also carry a "CT" designation on them. I'm hoping against hope that "CT" stands for commercial trailer and that Colonial goofed.

But knowing how Virginia works I'm wondering if they've just enhanced their income at my expense. The DMV website isn't really helpful. Anyone else who recently bought IN Virginia have a clue?

Thanks in advance, Paula

CT originally stood for Car Trailer but is now used on all renewable VA trailer plates. You can go on the DMV website and order Permanent Plates. You'll have to pay an additional fee - the difference between the renewable plate and the permanent. Been gone from VA for a few years so not sure what the fees are anymore.

Just a guess that CT stands for camping trailer...to distinguish it from boat trailer, utility trailer, etc. Or, maybe CUTE trailer.
