When/if the WBCCI caravanned around-the-world, did they load trailers on ships for crossing over the ocean(s)?

Was just day-dreaming about travelling in our own trailer through Europe Many drawbacks, I'm certain....$ rv parks availability, differences in electricity, trouble in Transylvania

There is a really nice interview with one of the original caravanners Burt Kalet who is organizing the 2009 Capetown to Cairo caravan on The VAP podcast and he talks about when they gathered to load the Airstreams on the ship on the old caravan. Take a listen. The Vintage Airstream Podcast - Episode 42: Cape Town to Cairo

We should talk! We have had the same dream and have done some preliminary work. We want to go in 2012 for at least three to four months. We joined a UK Caravanning club and had lots of mail from euro-campers/travelers about the matters you raised.

Its all doable! The shipping costs are not exorbitant ( Our pickup and the AS), the roads are easily managable, camping grounds are readily available and close to major cities, propane and electrical issues easily resolved...

We could circumnavigate the Baltic Sea!! One just has to get up and do it!

The main catch is that some newer wide-body Airstreams may exceed some EU width restrictions - be aware of your A/S and local restrictions that might require a higher drivers license.
