Australia A/S's
What might the complications be if I were to buy an Australia spec Airstream in L.A. , have it shipped to OZ , travel about the country for 4-6 months using a locally purchased tow vehicle , then selling the Airstream and tow vehicle in OZ ? Also, if the door has to be on the left or the rear , would an Eddie Bauer with the rear and right doors pass muster ? Do you know of any organization that facilitates swapping of RV's in Australia for one in the US ? There is one for swapping motorcycles throughout the world ( bikeshareworld ) and others for home swaps.

I can help you out a bit. First you'd have to get import approval from the DOT here to ship it. Then it needs to be registered to be legal on the road - depending on which state you'd be registering in, you could have an easy time or ...not. The rules state there needs to be a door on the left OR rear, so that part would be fine. If it's already Australia spec, I assume that means electrics, gas, hitch and everything else?
Sorry, I don't know anything about swapping. But I don't believe you'd have much trouble selling it on here.
You do know you'll be up for $8K - $10K in shipping alone, right?

Ps an eddie bauer wouldnt be allowed as the maximum width in oz is 2.5 metre including awning , which is around 8foot, all newer airstreams are 8ft 5" so not allowed in oz.
So you have to look at older airstreams.

Our renovations are complete
That reminds me; I forgot to update this thread.
(main thread here... http://www.airforums.com/forums/f46/...ics-94618.html)
Here are some of the highlights...
Completely updated layout
240v throughout for power (we're in Australia) - including uninterruptible power supply (we get a lot of trees falling over power lines up here in the hills).
12v lighting including LED strip lights recessed behind a panel in the ceiling.
Bamboo floor
Bar fridge
All new upholstery
2-pak high gloss desk
(Replica) Eames soft cushion executive chair.
Dinette that converts into a kids bed
Couch that converts into a double bed (retained and modified from original)
