I've seen similar stuff between the panels. A heat gun makes it really soft, a wooden scraper pulls it up and paint thinner cuts the film. Of course I had the advantage of the panel being removed but perhaps some version of this technique will help out.

Good luck Robin...I know you'll do a terrific job bringing it back to life! Care to share the VIN number for the Safari Registry I've started here?

First comment on the Texas Patch.
I use those patches to cover holes and in this case corrosion from the metal running light base.

time to polish up a bit
While I wait for parts and being heat lazy....I have started a slow polish/repair process. When I sent a picture to my California Brother he sent me a return update on the Caravel I sold him a few years ago. I can't believe it...CAN'T!...he got this repolished, the tanks and awning covers included...for 100 $ a foot. IN CALIFORNIA! Anyway, as you can see, he takes care of Lulu.

all the windows
I pulled all the windows out and completely rebuilt them. The rain gutters drilled off, cleaned, straightened and now polished... I did buy two from Vintage to check how they look and would fit. The look and fit is beautiful.....getting that white coating off of them is a B---h. Polish will tell the truth. The eyebrow over the door was removed, repaired and replaced too.

interior now stripped out and entry repaired
I just plain expected floor damage by the entry, water heater and rear access door. The entry water rot damage had been half a--ed repaired and covered with a 1/4 inch thick aluminum plate, then final sheet and then carpet. All that is now ton and the floor repaired with wood as it should have been don in the first place. No damage at the water heater or water fill area. Rear access area was rebuilt and have a cargo area type surface cover. The entire floor area will have an overlay for leveling....then a moisture barrier and a laminate floor. That will take a day.

weekly activity
Finished the floor. NOTE: I was in a hurry and put the floor in before doing the insulation and wiring. DON'T DO THAT! he wiring is mostly in. I still have a couple wires to run to the kitchen. The in place bath/tanks/shower pan all make it a problem to work around the front corner. As part of the wiring I had to break away and pull the old front vent fan for the new Fantastic Fan and then pull the center vent for the AC install. That means wires and drain tube and insulation. That all should be done by tomorrow. Riveting all the panels on will eat up time. I am also working on the interior furniture...very similar to the Bubble "Bub." Maple....I pulled the old double bed and am going to make a "lounge" in the aft area with the recycled food out couch from a previous project.

interior wood and misc.
The seating is done now...cushions are being made and upholstered.....as is the recycled couch/bed.
Note how I have incorporated a slant to the back of the seats. This makes the seating a bit more tolerable rather than the straight 90deg. seating style. A bit of work, but worth it.
I would never put reflectors on the rear panels...however, this Safari came with holes already there and rivets covers did not look right to me. Same on the front....WHY would anyone put reflectors on the front?...but they did and I had to use what was there.

It is GREAT Kip! All those years sleeping where ever, food heated up in the galley of a Herk, four day old coffee with a spoonful of salt to cut the bitterness, inflight meals three times a day for thirty days at a time, no one speaking English, gun toting "guards" at every stop, never a Holiday off, Willow Run at 0300 on a snowy Christmas Eve, ......I love my days off. Can I come visit Colorado next Summer?

Just spent some time in Tucson pulling some parts from another Herc we own down at DM. Rained the whole time we were there, except it stopped while dropping the APU. Found some new friends in the APU exhaust

yesterdays work
I plan to finish up the polish on Monday....so, I had to do some metal work. That is going OK. The window gaskets are a pain. I have not figured out the clean up for 3M adhesive. CM Hoof running lights. A rare item and the aluminum bases were new.
