FB modifications

I was tired of the mattress falling off the platform in a 25' SE FB. Cut the plywood 2" wider than the mattress and installed over the deck with drywall screws and finished it off with aluminum trim.

This is something I would let Airsteam know about. It doesn't seem normal to me that the mattress would fall off like you indicate. Love the mod though...maybe you should get some royalties from Airstream for the design of the fix!

I raised this question on the forums about a year ago after I'd bought our twin bed FB. It seems Airstream shaves a few ounces on quite a number of trailers by undersizing the platform. It's strange to sit on but our mattresses don't fall off. It is difficult keeping contour sheets on them however. Nice mod -- I'll consider it.

But hey, you gotta love the huge storage space we have with the 3 outside compartments!

No more mattress slip

We solved the problem by placing one of the anti-slip pads used for floor rugs under the mattress in our 25 FB. We also put this material under the seat cushions.

Ed-

You got it exacty right! Works great and costs very little. You would think that AS would use Velcro like they did on our dinett cushions.

Thanks for the good Idea. We experienced the same problem with our 25' FB. How thick of plywood did you use? It almost looks like 3/4"

I think 1/2" would work out just nice and use a router to round out the edges.

Echo

I must also echo Devoman. I would like to get my hands on some of that trim for my table.

Try http://www.airforums.com/forum...ource-582.html

It's not just a factor of using the search function. It's seeing year after year of posts and knowing that excellent answers have been put up before. I'd rule out whether a local Home Depot had something like this -- although it was much more a counter trim used back in the 60s.

The aluminum trim comes in 6' lengthes with nails and I picked it up at my Local Ace Hardware store. It was less than $5.00 each. It is counter trim and designed for 3/4" material.

Great mod Dennis. Looks great too. I like that it also addresses the edge roll issue in an undersized platform. No more sitting on the edge of the mattress where it was unsupported. Nice looking canine pal, btw.
