Our Double Door 30' 1954 Liner

Well, we are back, after fifteen days, twelve hours and 5,602 miles. We is myself, my wife, Beth, my number two daughter, Anne and her friend, Tricia. In six days we drove to Tampa, FL through El Paso, San Antonio, dinner at Riverwalk and a tour of the Alamo, Houston, baseball game, home team Astros won, lunch at Nicks in Eunice, LA, center of cajun culture and home of 101.1 FM KBON Louisiana Proud, stop at Avery Island and the Tabasco Plant, dinner at Emerils in New Orleans, begnets at Cafe DuMond, lunch at Lulu's (Jimmy Buffett's sister) at Homeport Marina in Gulf Shores, Al and then to Tampa and the 1954 Double Door 30' Liner. We spent two plus days replacing the axles and wiring the brakes, etc, visit with Jim Smith, the Silver Albatross, see the Devil Rays lose to the Marlins, and then left for the return trip. Seven days back, through Plains, GA, Vicksburg, MS, Dallas, return unused wheels and brakes and see the Rangers beat the Angels in eleven innings, Carlsbad Caverns, visit with Brad Norgaard in Phoenix and now home. Also met GunnyUSMC on the way to Shreveport, good luck to you in Texas and hope to see you again.

We took the 1977 Lincoln which performed flawlessly both ways. Will compute mileage both bobtail and towing, later and will share with anyone who is interested. A vintage tow vehicle will perform on a long trip if properly maintained, and the comfort greatly exceeds a pickup or Suburban or Excursion.

Now the fun begins, take stock of the trailer condition, develop a plan of attack and rehab the Liner to the glory it deserves.

Here are a few pictures after we arrived home. More to come as the rebuild progresses.

Bill

I saw this double door beauty when Bill drove through Phoenix. We talked about it for an hour and a half in the late afternoon sun here in Phoenix. I, for one, will be watching your restoration progress and will be glad to see all of that pink go away.

Actually we have a separate bedroom exit so that one of us can sneak out while the other is watching TV.

Parts Needed

I have started the rehab of the Liner and currently have the need for two parts. Number one, two 25" H by 14" W Hehr windows that look like this:

I also need two rectangular tail lights that are 5 3/4" W by 3" H. According to the excellent article by Fred Coldwell in the 2003 Third Quarter Vintage Advantage these are Bargman No. 2 lights.

There are probably more items, but this is what I am looking for now.

Bill,

You want a 60 year old window!!!!!!!!! Whew.

Well if it can be done this is the place to do it.

Inside out waited for about a year + to get a shelf for the refer and a termination cap for her sewage system through this forum. She has a 63 or 64 Trailer.

I would recommend putting this in the classified Forum under misc parts. If you have not done so already.

Action,

Come on, it is only 51 years old. If you look at Bryan Burkhart's book on pages 130 and 131, he shows an identical double door Liner as a 1958 which makes it only a 47 year old window. I am sure that the window was used on more than one year. If you don't ask no one will tell you.

I will post in the classifieds.

Bill

I'll bet your neighbors love you right now...
Are you planning to install holding tanks in you "new" coach, or go with what originally came on it (a straight pipe)?

Bill, I have the original taillight mounts (the aluminum backing plate with the sockets) if that will help. I replaced them on my '53 FC because the lenses are glass, fade with time, and essentially can't be found. You're welcome to the mounts, though, if you need them! PM me if you want them.
