Hmmm...
Well if this doesn't work you can always bring back the negative karma thing. For fun, you could have a pop up message when someone tries to leave negative karma. Something like "Go hug a tree".

I personally don't think so. Most of the other Social Knowledge forums exist without negative karma. It's hard to communicate in a karma window. Some of the guiding principles should be like parenting -- don't hand out penalties that tie you down. I have seen bad karma give us more to repair. The basic effort to communicate should be there in the first place. To borrow a phrase from a decade back, good karma is a warm fuzzy -- it feels good even if we've never heard of a cold fuzzy.
We have plenty of tools: talk, warn meter, talk, suspension while we talk, more talk, supervising every post, talk if we have any patience left, or complete banning. Available mods on any given day definitely try to reach some consensus before taking action -- and no, it's not always unanimous. We try to make this a fair place that most of us would gladly hang around. Yet each of us can shoot first and ask questions later if a spammer gets on the boards!

Pffffft.
My point exactly. See my item #4 above. More responsibility and work for the moderators.
Less direct person-to-person civility needed for the regular Joes and Jills. Say whatever you want and let the moderators deal with the fallout.
Check your "Taoism for Dummies" book. Without negative karma, positive karma is worthless.
So how about we rename them Fuzzies instead of Karma.
I'm not ready to go to the mat on this. Do what turns your cranks.

Thats what's good about karma. You can't really go on a rant like you might do in a PM. Kinda like a raspberry from the back row, rather than a confrontational in-your-face screed.
You're the mods. Do what you think is right.

Ted -- Don't look out your window. I'd hate for you to smash your monitor when you realize we can only afford a Lada...
Don -- One can type a lot more than most people do in a karma window. And I think we've had a thread on karmic duality in the past -- hard to discuss without a treatise on zoroastrian influences in Goethe's writing. My hat is still off to Andy R. Negative karma is a mighty dull blade -- not easy to use well if you want to excise the lesion. We aim to operate with solid confidentiality and thus can't provide specific examples from real Forums life. Like the Brooklyn tailor sez, "Trust me!"

Another thing. I still want to know why we can only give out 10 karma fuzzies per day.
Along with this improvement in the karma system, can't you loosen up the restrictions?

As a recipent of unwarranted negative Karma several months ago (that totally ruined my day), I applaud this decision. It is long overdue.

No Bad Karma
Hi, I'm all for it. Although it was always there, the option for bad karma, I never used it and no-one ever sent me a bad karma. I still give my opinion and still respect yours even when we totally disagree. I will continue to give good karma for good posts, whether we agree or not.

I like the no negative karma policy.
I have left many (100s?) of "karmas" and will admit to leaving Neg karma one time - to a (ex?) moderator. He was so far out of bounds in his comment to another member, I felt an irresistable urge. I don't even feel bad.
I will say though, if the neg karma option wasn't there, another of the mods would have had to reprimand me for my reply... :-)

Only giving positive karma's the way to go... it's intentional and lets another person know that what they've said/contributed has been appreciated - well received. Seems that enough negative karma's already out there, intentional as well as inadvertant. These political times we're in have created enough ill will and rigid posturing/inflexibility. Our Airstreams and A/S community is a well appreciated break from all that.

I'm all for it too! No negative - just positive. Now, how do you send/receive Karma?? I actually just looked around to try to find something to click. Couldn't find anything. I'm glad you took away the negative Karma or I might have been getting some for this post!

I think you can still give negative karma if you hold the shift-alt-ctrl-right click keys.

Fascinating, Professor. You can also give yourself negative karma by holding down Ctrl and Alt, while pressing Delete, rapidly and repeatedly. Whatever gets you through the night.....
Nick.

Just found it!
Well I have seen people talk about karma but I have to admit, I didn't understant it. So I researched it, and found mine! I feel so bad that I didn't thank those of you that sent it to me Thank You! Thank You!
Is there a way I can have it notify me when I get some?
Now that I know how to send it, I am going to start slinging it all over the place for all the really cool posts I see on here. I love this forum!

There is no notification system for karma updates to your account. You have to log in to view it.

Any way we can go back and read the older Karma that isn't showing on our login?
