An auction With about 10 airstreams. and something more rare.
Hi there. I just got an e-mail from a friend about an auction. He sent it to me because of the airstream part. In looking at the page with the "10" airstream there is also what looks like a Spartan.
So when I saw this I thought I'd actually pass it on to the Forum.
The Airstreams all look to be from the 60's and 70's. I think the auction started yesterday but I was mailed today. Fun for a look and any serious people can grab info off the first page.
There's a lot of us So Cal types here and we go camping often. The next one is. Rivernook rides again." It's on the upcoming rally page. Feel free to join in.
I heard about this on Yahoo. It is the McAfee AntiVirus guy that used to be worth 100 million and now only about 4 million. Looks like there my be some good buys.
Sure wish I could be in New Mexico for that event. It's always fun to think you would be the only bidder and take home a real gem for next to nothing. Maybe one day?!?!

Actually, two of them are from the 50's...
The 13 panel trailer #117 (on front rockguard) looks to be a 1956 Safari. The windows look an awful lot like this one from RJ's website:
<on edit> As a matter of fact, the trailer above looks to be the EXACT trailer offered...look at the wheels, awning, A/C, tinted windows/covers, vent stack & tanks. If so, here's more info from RJ's site...
The 13 panel #123 (on back window) looks to be a 1953/54 21' because of the straight, non-sloped rear. The windows are similar to a Safari - but hard to tell because there usually isn't a gap between them or the drip caps - could be a Flying Cloud or ???
<on edit>The second one looks like it may be an "18 Footer" - check it out - not exactly the same trailer - but the streetside windows sure look the same.
Good luck to any who decide to bid ~ too bad there aren't more pics or VIN numbers....
Shari

I am planning on going. I'll see if they will let me take pictures and I will let forum members know what the trailers go for. I am personally interested in bidding on 3 or 4 of the Airstreams and would consider the Spartan if it doesn't go for too much money. I will try to post results on Sunday.
Ah, again it appears that 'fame' in the internet world can be humbling...wonder what happened, it appears he had many varied outlets for his internet labors...

It was a poorly run auction IMHO.
The last trailer to be auctioned was the 1966 Safari. My wife and I were interested in the trailer b/c we had a 66 Safari that we mistakenly traded in on our 07 Classic (didn't really have the money for both). We were standing by the person they awarded the bid to. I bid 5500 for the trailer, they autctioneer then read my number outloud but the person writing down the paperwork put down the person beside me (Oh well). I hope the winning bidder enjoys the trailer but I believe they were going to flip the trailer. We are perfectly happy with our 27 ' classic
Trailers were in good shape and most of the insides were redone. All of them had plates in the trailers indicating that they were antique trailers and as such, not to use the plumbing.
I believe the best buy at the auction (other than the trailer that I missed out on) was the Spartan. It was supposedly Howard Hughes' trailer and personal trailer of Dr. McAfee.
Thanks for posting those details. What a disappointment about the 66 safari!! Sorry you didn't get it. Sounds like some people got a real steal. Anyone on the forums get one?
