Wireless Camera Idea

This struck me today and I wondered if anyone had tried it. I bought a set of Zonet wireless ip cameras and use two at a remote location. In checking the manual today they apparently will work on either a conventional infrastructure WLAN (with an access point) or in ad hoc ( peer to peer) mode.

Here's my plan:
1. Either set up an adhoc connection between a tablet or laptop in the truck and the camera or put a wireless router in the trailer and set up a conventional infrastructure WLAN.

2. Put a permanent mount in the trailer at the rear window. The camera has the ability to reverse the picture top to bottom and left to right. While running the in cab device can display what is behind and beside me.

3. Make a temporary, maybe magnetic, mount and attach it to the tailgate or bumper. This would only be used temporarily when hitching up.

The cool thing is I already have all this stuff and on the surface I don't see why it won't work. The devil is in the details, so I'll be bread boarding this up in the next few weeks to try it but I wondered if anyone had tried anything similar.

I think there's a thread on here where the owner added a wired back up camera and had it switchable on the stock tv navigation screen.

Al,

Did you ever get your system up and running?

For another idea, check out this wireless system that uses an iPhone 5 as the display:

On the back burner.....

I ran into a problem with my cameras. I thought they, or more accurately, the display software, had the capability to flip the picture left to right which is required for this application. They did not. I'm still looking for a solution, and I'm trying to stay well under $400.

Thanks for the link. This solves the problem of needing an additional display, but I'd rather have a less expensive, non-weatherproof camera that I can put inside the trailer in the rear window. I'll post if I come up with anything. Only option at this point is have the camera shoot forward into a rear-view mirror and I don't think I get get a wide enough field of view with that approach. Maybe with a panoramic mirror.

I bought the rear veiw cam from rvrearviewcamera.com that uses a LAN to communicate to you iPhone. I'm on my first trip with it and am completely satisfied with it. I've never had a clear rear view whilst towing and it

Oops hit reply by mistake.

It great to see someone behind you and then on the rear view and side mirror at the same time. It really takes the guess work out of lane changes.

I have been trying a Samsung SmartCam HD Pro 1080p Full-HD Wi-Fi Camera that is clamped to the rear window with a cheap suction clamp from Harbor Freight. A 7 inch nexus tablet running the free versions of IP camera monitors in the TV. Video is very clear but the latency of WiFi is always a pain. I will keep trying "low" cost systems till I like one.

Does ipcamera support left-right mirroring?

I don't have it with me now, but I think I am using tinyCam or IPcam and used the mirror view feature to make it look like a rear view mirror image.

I'd be really interested to know where the mirror reverse feature is. I downloaded both tinycam and ipcamera to my android tablet and can't find the reverse feature. Maybe it's in your camera? Samsungs product data doesn't mention it, however.

So near, but yet so far....

Thanks,

Al

I think that ipcam has a more options button and then a mirror horizontally button. Don't remember on tinyCam.

I may not have the correct App. I installed IPCam Viewer. There are a bunch of Apps with "IPCam" in the name. If you get a chance to check, could you tell me the full name and developer of the app you use?

Thanks!

Thanks. I looked at that one but didn't install it. I'll get it now!
