It takes so much time trying different cameras and different viewers and all the different combinations of settings. I will pass on more details when I get my hands on my system. Hopefully we will find the right combination!

Says won't run on my tablet. I have that problem occasionally with my jailbreak Pandigital Supernova Reader. If I can figure out how to download it it can sideload it and it will run.

Thumbs up It's Working!

Thanks to "The Cabin"!!! For pointing me to Android viewers and sticking with me until I stumbled onto a solution.

Here's what I ended up with:

ZonetZVC7611W Wireless VGA IP camera, loaded with Edimax IC1520 firmware per Seanfurukawa.com. The Zonet firmware requires Active-x plugin and the edimax does not.

"IP Cam Viewer Free" Android app. It has a left-right mirror function so I can point the cam out the back window and it will be like a rear view mirror in the truck. This app is compatible with a long list of cameras by many makers.

Viewer app is loaded on my hacked Pandigital Supernova reader. Hacking it gives access to the Android market, Amazon App Store, and a bunch of other stuff.

This test was done in the house on my home network. I'm going to put a spare router I have in the trailer in an attempt to bridge the gap between the back of the trailer and the truck cab. I'll also make a temporary magnetic or suction mount to put on the back of the truck when hitching.

The best part? Total dollars expended: $0.00. I had all this stuff just laying around.

Al

Here's a screen shot with mirror function on.

I have been playing with using IPads and\or IPhones for a rearview camera.

This is the software I bought from the App Store. Click image for larger version

I installed a holder in my back window of the trailer using one of the mag. holders. With the curtains pulled closed behind it no one would know what it is. Click image for larger version

The only problem I had was a requirement to Accept the connection. I emailed the developer of the software and asked him to allow the acceptance as an option only. He said he would make that change. He also wanted to know what other features would make the program better.

I think having a camera that is portable and can be used for many more reasons is the way to go. Plus we already own the hardware.

I also can use my IPhone as the viewer or camera. As long as the software is on the device you can select which device to use as the viewer or camera. You can disconnect one and switch to another. iPhone would be used as the camera if I am hitching.
