That is because everybody is too busy texting to have time to watch a movie while driving.

Howdy!
I just finished installing a simple but much nicer unit and speakers.
A Kenwood DDX395 with a pair of JBL GTO629's
Not an audiophile set by any means but I'm not convinced much could be done with acoustics on a small scale. This whole set up costs ~$275.
It seems the speakers were about as good as it gets till you get much more serious with remote components; these were plug and play perfect fit.
The head unit does more than I want or need and I got it specifically for a little more sonic punch (which it does!) and a simpler more reliable dvd player (which it is!). I had to build a box for it as it's the larger LED screen version built for a car dash. But wired in ~10 minutes! There does not appear to be an old fashioned in dash like the stock player that would be any better so if you want to upgrade you'll need to consider a new box.
It seems for more money you get marginally improved sound and more integration with automobiles and other bells and whistles that don't seem needed. It has some integration with Sirius but I don't have such subscriptions.
Half volume is more than enough so more watts a waste.
So far quite happy with the sound and ease of installation!

Hopeful
Just talked, in person, to a Sony car stereo dealer, who informed me that he's going to a regional dealers meeting on the soon to be released products. He said that there has been talk of a 12VDC double-DIN AM/FM (digital) Blu-Ray/CD/DVD player. He's going to call me with an update. Fingers crossed!

I haven't quite finished it yet; probably clad in white formica and have to get a hole saw for the USB outlet but basic install done.
Speakers are much more robust with large magnets but fit fine with the stock spacer rings. I drilled out the spacer rings screw holes to allow flush set bigger sheet metal screws and then attached the new speakers to the spacers and into aluminum. The speakers are heavy enough, maybe twice as much as the stock, and need to be securely attached.
Two trips and some bumpy roads and holding tight!

I know it seems like a roll eyes response, but I mention it because even though blu-ray 1080p is the standard now, 4k has been out for a while now....and Samsung is now hawking 8k TV's which is a sign of things to come.
While I realize that you have to jump on the train at some point, to only support blu-ray only and it's odd shape to cut in....."might" be an issue going forward.
Just my thoughts at first......but it seems like a cool unit.

Stereo/DVD and TV Upgrade Suggestions...
Finally upgraded the worthless factory 8” sub to a pioneer 10”. Cheap sub but does a fine job filling out the low end (I don’t listen to music too too loud...)
My next job is to Dynamat the entire underbelly haha. Rattles something fierce if you give it some juice! Yikes! Haha.
