Solar Panels with Exposed Cords + a 'what is this?"

I climbed a ladder to check the top of my Airstream for the first time last week and have three questions (photos attached):

1) The two plug-in cords that run from the box to the solar panels look like what is shown in my Owner's Manual. However, do I need to be concerned that the cords are, well, just lying there?

2) Should I unplug the two cords from the receptacle and use the plug protectors attached to the plugs (can be seen in photos) to keep rain/snow out over the winter?

3) What are two foot-long, elongated shields on side of air conditioner?

I can't comment on the Factory solar install except to say... it's a Factory solar install.
3m cord clips could help tighten & secure them.👍 Better if you could find them with permanent 3m adhesive.


The shields are to deflect air away from the fridge vent while towing.

The solar wires are fine... not the neatest / cleanest install but having them exposed is fine they are rated for outdoor use. No need to disconnect in the winter either - those or SAE connectors designed for outdoor use.

Again, not as neat and tidy as using a sealed junction box but it does the job and will give you years of trouble free use.
