Why does the sound from the Blu-Ray player only come through the TV speakers? Why didn't they make the sound come through the Sony car stereo, 6 1/2" coaxial speakers, and 8" Bazooka powered sub? I will be visiting Audio Central soon to get this change made. Also, they should have recessed the car stereo another 1" into the cabinet so I could close the cabinet with a USB cord plugged into the front of the stereo. I hope Airstream engineers and designers frequent Air Forums to get some ideas of what the customer wants.

Funny - the quality of the electronics and audio components, as well as how they are connected to each other, also sucked on my 1999 Safari. Perhaps high quality AV is just not in Airstream's nature.

I would speculate that the reason the audio for your blue ray player only comes out of your TV speakers is Airstream went the simple route and connected the blue ray player to the TV with a single HDMI cable - which carries both audio and video - to the TV.

It sounds like they did not also connect the additional analog audio outputs from the blue ray player to the auxiliary audio input on your Sony head unit. This would have required them, horror of horrors, to buy a $2 cable and make an additional connection during the installation process.

If Airstream really wanted to get their act together, they would have outfitted your trailer with a surround sound system, not just a stereo (two channel) car audio system - and connected your blu ray player to it via HDMI or optical cable so you could get surround sound from your movies.

The factory rep said he thought the Blu-ray player would play through the Sony stereo. I haven't tried it yet, but the next time I am in the trailer I will. I do like the iPod capabilities of the stereo and it does sound good.

On the Sony set the source to CD2 and bingo your tv audio is now on your audio system.

Jwestman is correct. It'll do it, just have to set the source for radio.

And on the USB cable if you are using an iPod you can use the internal connection on the radio if you have the same one by 2012 FC has. You can flip the face open and there's an internal cable. In the plastic box that came with my AS under the sofa was a black elbow ipod connector that will go in the radio. So whenever I get to the campsite i take the iPod out of the truck and put it in the radio. no cables handing everywhere, works good.

I know that you can put your iPod/iPhone inside the stereo, but my iPhone is in an Otterbox and my wife's iPhone is in a Mophie Juicepack. That is why I use the front USB with the Apple cord.

You should be able to switch the Sony source to Bluetooth then and connect your I phones that way with no cords.

Do you have to book for the Sony? If not, look at the main control knob and the blu tooth pairing is just below and slightly to the right. I think it will show up on your IPhone as Sony Automotive or something clos to that.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Apple didn't support (read that, allow) music streaming via Bluetooth on the early iPhones. Somewhere I have a pair of Headphones and an adapter that plugs into the docking port to get around this. I'm glad to learn that this has changed.

I am not sure an iPhone will Bluetooth music to the Sony, but I don't know why it wouldn't. I have an Altec Lansing Bluetooth stereo headset. Seems like it would work just the same way.

My comment was about early iPhones, in my case an original iPhone. You could connect Bluetooth headsets for the phone, but they didn't support streaming music via Bluetooth. As for why, ask Steve Jobs, it was an Apple decision.

I hadn't tried to setup Bluetooth music streaming after I upgraded to an iPhone 4.

I have a 4 and it works well with the Sony. I use the Tune In app to listen to ball games when on the road in a state that doesn't think enough of the University of Michigan to broadcast their games. (Smile). Having my ITunes library along is nice too.

I may have to dig out that set of stereo headphones and see if I can make them work without using the adapter that plugs in to the bottom of the iPhone.

The only issue I have found when listening to the Airstream sound system while streaming via Bluetooth from my IPhone is when somebody calls my mobile number. You have two choices; first you can simply turn off the sound system and answer the call or you can install the microphone that came with the radio (ours was in the bag of accessories that came with the trailer) and use the "hands free" option that is designed into the radio. I stuck the microphone base in the edge of the trim that surrounds the cabinet that the radio is mounted in and ran the wire behind the edge of the cabinet for a hole free installation. Now when someone calls I just speak in a normal voice and carry on as usual. Kind of fun....
