We have Tom Tom and Garmin units in our household. Both work well.

We currently have a Nuvi. It has taken us to some really *ahem* exotic places in our travels. We're looking at replacing it with a Magellan, the one Office Depot has currently on sale for $99. I don't know if it will behave differently or not, but I am at the point I distrust our Garmin, after it gets us to exit the Interstate, drive through downtown, and get back on the Interstate on the other side of town. This is using the "fastest route" option.

I bought a Garmin 255W and I am satisfied. I have used it last year for a trip to USA and I went to Chicago on my way to Louisiana to have a ZipDee awning installed on my Minuet. If it would not be for my GPS I would still be there...
