DVD-Movie Not Working

Good Morning...Well, we've successfully learned to operate the Sony stereo in our 2007 Safari, including the 10-disc changer, rear speakers, etc. This weekend we popped a movie into the stereo to see if we could get it to play on the TV, but with no success. We've read the manual and it appears we're doing everything right. It may be as simple as cleaning the disc player (tv display indicates that the disc is cannot be read). Without cable hookup or a satelite dish, we'll rely on an occasional movie for entertainment (aside from plenty of music!). Any quick tips?

Will a CD play in it?
Are you sure the radio hasn't been swapped out for a CD-only unit at some point?

Radio works just fine and the stereo-tv is the original.

Will a regular CD play in the stereo?

You are putting the DVD into the slot behind the radio face and not into the changer, right? And this isn't a Blu-ray disk?

Hello...The stereo is the original, we are putting the DVD into the correct space (behind the radio display) and it's not a Blu Ray DVD. We tried a disc cleaner and even 'reset' the stereo, to no avail. I think the only option is to take the stereo in for service, unless someone has another idea. Thanks for your help!

I'm not sure what TV, player or connectivity you have, but check the connections. We had a HDMI splitter come loose for the main TV. It was behind the player. Check to make sure the TV is configured properly. Our Samsung needed to have the network set.

Try another DVD.

Strange as it sounds, I have one (retail movie, not homemade) that simply quit working. Loaned it to a friend and they said that they couldn't get it to play.

Brought it home, I can't either. Tried it in several DVD players and computers. Just doesn't work anymore.

Ditto. We have friends who have a 2008. Some DVDs work; some plainly don't. I don't have a clue why. Worst was when we brought a 'Long, Long Trailer' DVD for a highly anticipated evening. Plop...

Never have been fascinated with the level of Sony AV products the factory installed a few years back. "Xplod" literally describes it. Unless 'Plop' has a particular ring to you. Sony has been particularly unfriendly to iPods & iTunes. I use bluetooth speakers for my music. Or watching DVDs or Hulu on a laptop (though the time to watch TV while camping is minimal in our experience).

Took a factory tour three years ago. I specifically asked to speak to whoever chose their AV systems. They were off that day.

When I need something more than simple FM radio, I plan on looking into any other automotive AV systems that I can and will leave Sony behind. Still ... campfires take first place for my priorities.

I agree...try another DVD. Once in a while we rent a DVD that just won't play in our DVD player...it's not the player necessarily...it's the disc...something about the technology used to record them not synching with the technology of the player...it's hit and miss. Usually when it happens to us, it will play in the laptop.

Figured mine out pretty much however when attempting to play a DVD I keep getting the message Mode Not Supported. It will play for a few moments then stop playing for a few minutes then start again. With each stop I get Mode Not Supported.
