Anyone have deep knowledge of Fire Fox

I use Fire Fox and it has lost the feature of automatically applying the User Name and Password when opening a web page.

The Fire Fox support forum ha not been able to help.

There are two ways to do it. If you log in you will see a check box beside the log in box that asks if you want to stay logged in. Check the box and it will log you in automatically. The browser will usually ask if you want it to remember passwords. I assume the latter is what is messed up but either way should work.

The second is the feature I was using.

I have passwords saved, I have security set to not remove cookies when closing FF, I am set on Use Custom Setting for History.

All of the settings are as I remember they were set when this worked. In the past it has failed several times and after hours of fiddling I have been able to get it back. Not this time.

Go to "help" at the top of the browser, select "troubleshooting", then select "reset Firefox to its default state".

The very first statement in Password Manager Settings does not take me to were it say it will. The 3 bar icon in the upper right of the page does not bring up anything like the instruction say so it is a dead end.

If I ignore the 3 bar option and go in through tools all of the settings and questioned asked in the above link are correct as far as i can tell.

Not mentioned was the extensions the OP added to FireFox. I have had conflicts with new FF releases and existing extensions.

I personally do want google getting all my tracking info with Chrome. I use Ixquick as a front end to google search to remove all Personal information as it pulls up a google search

Also, is the OP on Mac Or Windoze?

OK

I did this. Opened 3 web site by having to type in my UN & PW and switched back and forth between them for a couple of tries. The UN & PW worked. Then the real test I closed and rebooted the computer and things worked on those 3 sites.

Lost my home page but that is easy to fix.

I have spent hours on the FF Forum. Maybe you guys should subcontract to them.

Thanks

OK We are on a roll here so I will ask one more.

I have a 9/16 monitor and after the reset the pages are displayed in a foreshortened image left to right.

If fixing that won't upset the apple cart any suggestions?

I can stretch the desktop through the control panel to fill the screen but that did not change the image on a web page.

Hey Howie. So I'm not a deep user of FF, but here's a couple of ideas. Is it set up to automatically update the browser software? Try turning that off and only update on your schedule (similar to Windows update, I let it tell me when updates are available and download them once I'm comfortable they won't screw something up). I say this because you stated this has happened in the past. Caveat, of course, is that FF will allow you to this. Chrome won't; it updates automatically and you can't disable or modify that "feature".

Is it possible to roll back to an earlier version of FF? Similar to Windoze restore points. Or, possibly undo the last couple of updates one at a time? Maybe next to impossible or not possible at all.

Couple of things to think about.

Jim

I use Macs. Whenever I happen to think of it, I click on the FF program name and click on the "About FireFox" which then shows the current version. It immediately will check it out and give me the option to download the upgrade and install it. If I close the program, it stays on the current version....

I am not sure FF is any better than IE. Scripts are always crashing in FF and come and go without warning. FF has bugs for sure. Also I think registry entries get corrupted and things will never be right after that.

Pretty sure that Ad Block Plus is available for all major browsers.
