2017 22FB TV Audio

I just discovered that the LG 22LH4530 TV in my new Bambi has no audio output connection. I wanted to connect the TV audio to either the built-in JVC stereo or some portable JBL speakers that I use on my computer. The TV only has a connection for HDMI IN and the power supply. Really?

The dinky built in speakers are just lame. I don't have the TV on often, but when I do, I'd like to be able to hear it over the A/C fan.

Short of replacing the tv, anyone have a solution?

Not unusual these days. Most TV's now do not have separate "Audio Out" jacks. On my last trailer (a 2012), it looked like Airstream had the manufacturer add specific wiring so that there would be an output that could be wired into the Sony radio. The expectation these days that if you are going to wire your TV into something else it'll be via HDMI into a receiver, with the receiver providing the multi channel sound. If you wanted to get into the back of your TV, and you had the motivation, you could do a work around.

The HDMI may be ARC ( audio return channel). Basically it's a two way connection. So the HDMI is your audio out as well as in. As an example my home set has several HDMI plugs. Only one is HDMI ARC it returns audio to my stereo and power it on when I power the set on. It also allows me to adjust the volume with the TV set remote.

You might find some insight in this thread. the title How play audio CDs? through the stereo system" eventually came around to "TV thru the stereo"

https://www.amazon.com/Bussmann-MDL3.../dp/B00139MFXM

most of the discussion is in regards to Sony stereos and the "CD2" setting. I've heard Pioneer's have a similar setting. Not sure how it works on the JVC.

Good luck

Bob

Wow. That is the cheapest of cheap LG tv they used in there. I looked at the manual for it, and your right, it has no outputs. Retail is only $129.00

None of the 22" LG's (2) have outputs. My only guess would be to see if you can go bigger (24") and find a TV with an audio out RCA stereo plugs.

I'll look into the ARC HDMI possibility. If no joy there, I'll replace the TV. Thanks for the responses!

You could always add an audio extractor between the HDMI cable going into the TV and the TV which will extract the audio for you to connect to an external speaker. The link below is an example - I have used these a few times on AV installs with no issues. You would also need a short HDMI cable to connect back to the TV along with an audio cable for the speakers.

Hmmm, that only works with a device like a blueray player going into the tv using hdmi. You cannot extract the signal from the antenna or pull the audio from the hdmi input.

How about hearing aids like i have 😄

The Samsungs in my 2015 did not have RCA output jacks either. But looks like Airstream had them added. The TV back has a hole drilled with RCA jack cable protruding which was soldered on to the circuit board inside. Guess they decided to really cheap out now.

You are correct - it will only pull the audio off of an HDMI signal going into the TV not pull audio from the TV itself (ie. antenna). But if you are connecting a satellite tuner or any device that sends audio/video to the screen this will definitely work.

You could replicate this for any TV as long as it has speakers (or audio capability). You would just have to know how where the speaker connections are so you can solder the cable to the right spot on the circuit board.
