1977 clock replacement

Roger,
Thanks to Vernon, this was a very satisfying and short project.
He provided the expertise. All I needed was a soldering gun, a $1.50 power chip, a little scrap wire and 2hours of a Saturday morning( this includes going to the electronics shop just once). Don't ya just wish all of them projects turned out this way?

I hope it will be that easy. I have yet to find the time to pull out the clock. I have been going over the short falls of the PO. He used it for 5 yrs (I think) without any maintance. Only thing he accomplished was pullin the wheels and packing bearings and even that is suspect.
Winter is here so little projects like the clock are in order.

I have an '82 31' Excella...does this trick also work for it's clock as well? My clock is out, too, and for some reason it's a VERY important piece to the front look of the TT. I haven't removed the panel yet...Do I have to remove the pop-rivets to get the panel out or does it simply "pop" out of the casing?

There are two nuts from the rear on my '77. the entire clock and faceplate come out, the there are two screws behind the decals that remove the faceplate from the electronic guts. I have only seen this exact clock used for 2 or 3 years in the late 70's but knowing Airstream - it may have reappeared in your '82.

On my 71 the clock is easy. It does not fit in a large hole as the other intruments. The clock face is the control panel. I just bought a long stem El Cheapo movement from Hobby Lobby and voila instant clock. For the other holes Ganglin has been reading my mind. I almost bought an altimeter off ebay but am settling for a barometer.

While in the area of control panel my ammeter does not work. I could really use some advice on how to check if the problem is with my ammeter or somewhere else in the system. Being a 71 most stuff is direct wired rather than going through some kind of circuit board.

I'm in the process of replacing my dead '69 round clock with one from a vintage Porsche 911. I may replace the whole setup with automotive instruments eventually. I can't help myself, I'm a gearhead and love the look. I wonder if a fuel gauge sender would work in the holding tank...

It might work in the fresh water tank, but the float would quickly become fouled with the contents of the black tank.

Yeah, I know. Just a little joke on my part. I've thought of a few trick ways of making it work if I only had the time though.
