Top Ten Fallacies of the Full-Time RV World

10) "RVing is the cheapest way to travel."
9) "My dealer's really lookin' out for me."
8) "My '07 Airstream is worth almost as much as I paid for it."
7) "This should be a great day to open the windows and use the awning."
6) "My dog would NEVER have an 'accident' in my RV."
5) "My family and friends are interested in my travels and experiences."
4) "This park has WI-FI!"
3) "That family next to us will be quiet."
2) "The 'technician' fixed my leak."

And, the #1 fallacy of the Full-Time RV World:

"Let's take the grandkids next time, it'll be FUN!!"

AHHH the wunderlust of open road travel, free to be one with nature. LOL

1. just spent 2 1/2 weeks traveling around florida, 2,000 miles roundtrip for less than $500 a week, pretty cheap to me.
2. use your noodle, dealers are in it to make money too, buyer beware pertains to all things paid for, just say no, unless you really want it.
3. your 07 AS will be worth the same 20 years from now if America doesn't go under, mine is worth twice the original retail, try that with a white box trailer.
4. everyday is a good day above the ground, windows open or closed, awning is always optional, beer in hand a plus.
5. poor pouch probably more upset than you are.
6. family and friends, unless avid RV'rs could give a hoot, you really didn't buy it for them did you.
7. even Disney lies, WI-FI onsite per reservations, personal experience last August.
8. they won't camp next year, you will, wait them out and you'll win.
9. most will do what they think is right, check it for working, and bolt for the next job, they don't get paid squat. Did you check it before you left?
10. The treasured time with the little charubs is priceless no matter what ;O)

Great List

fmrcaptevil,

Top Ten Fallacies of the Full-Time RV World

IMHO, with that list, you are the Letterman of the RV world! Thanks for a good laugh after a hard day at work.

I'm with Arcamedies. The positives far outweigh the negatives. Time on the road is, by far, the very best way to travel and see the country.

Camping with grandchildren is an experience unto itself---lots and lots of work for the adults but couldn't be time better spent. They love it, remember it, talk about it and want more. Makin' memories with those babies---what could be better.

22mpg towing 34' A/S?

10) "RVing is the cheapest way to travel." We pay less for gasoline than we did for property taxes alone on our house. We ARE saving money RVing
7) "This should be a great day to open the windows . . ." Heck yeah, the windows are open almost any day we're stopped.
6) "My dog would NEVER have an 'accident' in my RV." It would be an accident for us to have a cat or a dog -- no disrespect intended to those who do.
5) "My family and friends are interested in my travels and experiences." We started our blog so our family could keep us with us -- they don't read it -- it's not their adventure.
4) "This park has WI-FI!" Yeah, and we're gonna stop at every Tim Horton's across Canada in case one of them has wifi -- the coffee and donuts are good, even though we haven't found the wifi yet.
3) "That family next to us will be quiet." Weekends are noisy, week nights are quiet. Our patience is rewarded.
2) "The 'technician' fixed my leak." We've never met a leak a tech fixed.
1) "Let's take the grandkids next time . . . Yeah, for one week, maybe. We'd drive them crazy first, anyway.

Here's one more for your list: "I get 22 mpg towing". Yeah, downhill with a tailwind, maybe. We heard the claim from a triple axler with a big 3500 or 2500HD plus 100 gal supplemental fuel tank and bed full of stuff and conversion bed with all the tool boxes instead of fenders --

Thanks for starting this list -- FUN!

Very best regards,
Jim

my favorite lie thus far....

I see this a lot in the sales listings:

"won't take much to get this into a showroom beauty!"

or someother similar statement!

Oh, I am not complaining! It sure is rewarding to work on our AS. But whoever says a statement like that, sure ain't ever worked on one, have they?

Great list . When making Reservations they say:
1. Its a pull thru site
2. and it's Level.
neither is true upon check in.

Great thread! I've enjoyed every comment.

Nothing to add yet - just bought our "Squarestream" and haven't gone anywhere with it yet. Ah, adventure beckons!

10. I'll have the bathroom done by the Cherry Blossom Rally.
9. It won't cost that much.
8. It'll be here by Tuesday.
7. That noise is really nothing to worry about.
6. It's something we can fix on the road/later/over winter.
5. That's enough propane.
4. Sure, the awning is secured.
3. Of course the vent is closed.
2. You have plenty of room, plenty of room, STOP... oops.
1. The dump station really isn't that bad.

Nobody mentioned breakdowns - how about dry camping in a field for a week in Fort Stockton TX waiting for engine parts to be shipped in to a mechanical shop to replace a harmonic balancer that came apart. Thankfully I had my little car in tow so I could get groceries.

What technicians hear all the time and don't believe...

" I could fix it myself but I don't have the time"

" No I didn't try to fix it myself"

"It worked perfectly yesterday"

"Anybody can fix those"

etc

What a great list and what a gang who added to it. Remember, anyone can justify anything if they really believe in it (or have investments in it) Just look at Congress. smile

Hitting the road from beginning to end

1. I'm sure I closed all the windows when I left.
2. It probably won't rain anyway
3. This is definitely the most current guidebook
4. The map shows it is an improved road
5. Keep going, the next gas is only 50 miles
6. I switched the frig over to propane
7. That red light never comes on
8. I have my discount pass with me
9. The park office stays open till 6
10. You should already have our reservation

Plus "Don't worry, we'll make it home before dark....
