Maybe she can stand in for me in the mod shack while I'm at work--do you think anybody would notice the difference?

I'd start a poll but would be afraid of the results. Classic attorney rule: don't ask a question if you don't know the answer.

No good deed goes unpunished. Or "Death of a Dynasty"

Marie's car, a 1993 Dodge Dynasty that was involved in an accident before we acquired it, has been on borrowed time for the last 4-6 weeks. The transmission would sometimes forget to shift, or shift into a gear at random whenever it felt like it. It also failed last week at the Post Office. By the time I signed out a car from the motor pool, and got there, it had started back up and she had driven it home, and it was running like there was nothing wrong with it.
This lasted until yesterday, when it started acting goofy again. I was wandering around Craigslist to see what havoc I could wreak, when I found an ad for a Saturn station wagon. My afiliation and loyalty is pretty much anywhere but with the parent company of Saturn, but the price was right, and it looked good in the Ebay-style photos. A quick phone call verified the car was still there, but "there" is about 60 miles away. The seller, a used car dealer, really tried his best to describe the car over the phone, he didn'teant us to waste a trip on a car we wouldn't like.
So, when Marie returned from Petsmart (the Vet had to go to the emergency room, and couldn't see Sofie), we headed over to see this wonder of automotive engineering from Tennessee.
I made the seller an offer he couldn't refuse, and we threw the Dynasty in trade. After the paperwork was completed, we took the keys to the Saturn, and gave him the keys to the Dynasty. Which promptly died a horrible death at his hands...
I put a pair of tires on the Saturn, and ordered the second pair (odd size, of course). I guess we'll see how long a 1996 SW2 with 175,000 miles on it lasts in daily service.

My goodness, what a weekend. We were adopted by Sophie, and I got a new to me car.

I am taking Sophie back to the vet at 4:00 this afternoon. They did weigh her and she weighs 20.6 pounds. She has become the darling of the rv park. Evertime we take her for a walk, everyone has to pet her and say how sweet and beautiful she is.

I met an elderly couple this morning who use to walk a bassett hound, and they told me Sammy died yesterday. I spent a few minutes with them because they needed to talk about it, and when I left, we were all 3 crying, but they felt better after we talked and then told me they were getting a rat terrier to help with the healing process and I reminded them to avoid comparing the new dog to Sammy, because all dogs are different.

Well, need to go do the laundry so I'm signing off for now. I'll let you know what the vet says later.

Everyone have a good day.

Marie

Yikes, Sophie does not like to have her temperature taken at all. But the vet said she is in perfect health with the exception of a yeast ear infection. We started the treatment on her as soon as we got home. I gave her her first bath and she tolerated it very well. vet also said she is 2 years old not 3. We are to continue with the science diet and she can have beneful or iams wet food at night mixed with the dry and she seems to like it. Her heart worm test was negative, so they started her on pills for prevention, which she took in a teaspoon of peanut butter (wouldn't take it for me any other way) and Terry can give her the next tablet!

Take care and have a good week.

Marie

Try cheese whiz or a faximile on the dog pills. It generally works on mine, especially once they get used to it and know the alternative method. 3 of my 4 I have no problem with, #4 has to have the demo (the hard way) the first time if she hasn't had pills in a while. After that she huffs down the pills and cheese whiz just like the rest of them.

For heartworm I use the chewable tabs, I have all 4 thinking it is a rare treat...a reward for a nail clipping, tooth brushing and putting the tick drops on.

I hide our dog's meds in tuna. One bite without. Next with the med. It's smelly enough to cover unpleasant medicine-y odors and he LOVES it so much he sucks it down so fast you'd think he was breathing it.

Both are very good ideas, but Terry is still giving the pill next month.

Sophie is currently sleeping the sleep of the innocent directly between Marie and myself, after having a very busy day working as a companion animal to the Alzheimers patients Marie ends to during the day. Marie's little Saturn seems to have an annoying bug in it, as it spits when accelerating, almost like a car with a "flat spot" in the carbureter.
I got a box from Zip-Dee today, which looks like it contains the pieces to attach the rear awning I got from Bob's a couple of weeks ago. I'll be doing that this coming weekend, among other things, like taking Sophie in for a "wash and wax"...
Also, I've noticed it can be a bit confusing to tell at-a-glance which one of us is posting, as we are both currently using the same avatar. I'll be changing mine to something slightly different so you can tell us apart again.

Sophie went to work with me today and the residents loved her. She was very gentle with all of them especialy the wobbly ones. They would not participate in the activities we had planned, so we changed them and let them get to know her.

Sophie was so tired she fell asleep in the car, ate dinner once she got home and fell asleep again and she still on the gaucho sleeping. Very good dog with the residents!

Day 2 on the job for Sophie, and she is pretty tired. I almost expected her to fall asleep in the food dishes. Marie says the residents, even the ones that she swore couldn't even remember their own names, are following Sophie around, calling her by name. It has been proven that infirm people respond better to animals such as cats and dogs, and the response so far reaffirms this. Right now, she's curled up against my side, sleeping again...
The Saturn is holding as-is for now, I'll look into the problem it has this weekend.
Sophie will be spending tomorrow home by herself, Marie is taking a group of residents from her facility to lunch, and for some strange reason they don't allow pets in restaraunts. No sense of humor at all... We'll see how Sophie tolerates being home alone for the first time.

Yipee, yahoo, we have been connected to Verizon FIOS. So Terry will be able to download pictures and not get booted off for using to much air time.
