Like a couple of posters above, I'm so far happy with our GYMs. Our Pete is 3 yrs old, with probably 5000 road miles, and tires are protected when he is in the pole barn not traveling. I will not run these or any trailer tire over 5 years.

Our GYMs are around 24th week of 2013 age, we run always @ 65 mph max unless we have to pass someone, our coach weighs 6500 lb camping ready, and I always keep air pressure at 65 psi. When we bought Pete I was actually pleased to see GYMs from the factory, because every white box price point trailer I've ever seen comes with maypops and they do quickly.

We ran 4 hours yesterday for a long weekend North of home on 2 interstates and a mix of 2 and 4 lane secondary roads. So far so good....... I get that if you tow faster, heavier, and many more miles than we do stronger tires are a good idea. But for us, so far 😊.

Hope this helps.

Thought I would throw my two cents into the pile of excellent comments on this question. So here it goes-
- most folks can waste more time with more intensity jawing about what's "best" when on spec and good enough will save money and aggravation.
- Read the Airstream owner's manual and, if you have it, the new owner literature. Start there.
- use trailer tires instead of truck tires for the many reasons cited above.
- and most important of all, follow the tire mfgr's owner's manual. It may be available on line, but get it and follow it.
- be unfailing in starting the towing day with proper cold inflation tire pressure - every time.
- when sitting for an extended time adjust tire pressure per the manual, usually by ten per cent of cold inflation pressure.

Happy trailering.

To the OP:
Since you have a 1973 trailer you may want to get the suspension checked on your trailer before putting a lot of miles on it. If not already replaced your axles will need to be upgraded. I predict you will have a lot of weight in your trailer with going fulltime.

If you have a tire rated at 65 mph and exceed that limit even once, you may have compromised the tire. Might not be a problem now, but could be in the future.

Don't AS put LT tires on some of their top of the line trailers now?

As well, I am pretty sure I have read ads for other trailers advertising that they have LT tires.

Maybe AS and other companies are just doing this based on the direction that
the RV owner community seems to be moving of their own volition? But one would hope they have done the appropriate research and held discussions with tire suppliers before offering trailers so-equipped.

Who knows for sure ?!

I'm in the middle of a three week 2500 mile trip, on two year old GYMs. This will be the last trip this year. Started in Portland, drove to Vegas, now in Indio. The posted road speeds have been interesting on this trip. In Calif., vehicles towing trailers are have a 55 mph legal limit. Over in Nevada, posted limits are up to 75 with no mention of trailers and trucks. I have Centramatics, and I check the air pressure every morning before I travel. I try to keep it at 60 mph, but I have hit 70 now and then. So far the GYMs have been fine, but I plan on replacing them with LT tires next season. I get that I have a trailer, and that I am currently using "trailer tires". But AS is offering LT tires as an option, and on some models they are standard. The Nokian 15 inch is pretty interesting spec wise. So, we will see. By the way, with my GYMs, we have found two rivet heads on the floor this trip, and a screw from a fantastic fan fell out. Impossible to say that the tires caused this, or just some bad potholes. Have not found where the rivet heads came from.

Flht2k you don't indicate your the length/type of your rig. Did you have 225/75R 15's before? How do the 235's fit? I've seen some rigs with plenty of room in the wheel well but our FC20 it isn't that generous especially the width.

We have a 1972 Overlander, the tire size on it is 700-15.
I also work at a tire store..........when we wanted to put new tires on, that size is
outdated for trailer tires. I used the tire fitment guide and what it told me was
the size for my tires were 205/90R15. it matched the 700-15 size the closest. Which is what you want to do.
We bought the Power King trailer tire in a 10 ply. Which is what was recommended
by my tire guy. great tires at a good price.

Trailer tires are made for trailers!
I work in a tire store. We almost NEVER put car or pickup tires on a trailer. Unless the customer insists.
We have a 72 Overlander. the size tires are 700-15. The size it crosses over to is
205/90R15. We put Power King trailer tires on. 10ply

I had the original gym 225/75r/15 2015 25' flying cloud with about 3500 miles on them. They fit with no clearance issues width or height. Over i40 heading into Louisiana, bumpy roads checked for any damage in new orleans. Looks fantastic. When I get to Tampa, I will have about 3500 miles on them. Also, pressure is set at 80 psi. They should fit fine.

80 psi on those tires? Shouldn't be more than 65 if I'm not mistaken. ??

Actually - I may be wrong. I thought that post was referring to the 15" GYMs but earlier in the thread he said he bought the Nokias. Perhaps they are an "E" 15" tire and want 80 psi?

Or perhaps I am utterly confused... again... 😕

You're totally right - I mistakenly thought you were talking about GYMs.

Wow - a 15" tire with 2755# of capacity??? Gonna have to investigate!!
