Texas Coast Campground Recommendations

Hello Everyone,

I just pulled into Mustang State Park. It seems nice enough, but not nearly as picturesque as Goose Island State Park where I spent the last few days.

Can anyone suggest some beautiful alternatives as I head South along the Coast? On Sunday I'll be leaving San Antonio and heading due South, doing a loop along the Gulf towards McAllen and maybe Mexico.

Any input is welcome, as I've never been here before.

Thanks

Texas Coast Recommendations

We have stayed at the Delanera Campground in Galveston. It is right on the beach and is reasonable. Nice with full hookups.

Loved your pictures. Have a safe trip home.

If you're a member of WBCCI, check your Membership Directory! In the back is a listing of parks that give discounts to members! Bet a dollar you might find one down there, too!

If you don't mind boondocking - you can go south of Corpus to N. Padre Island and camp on the beach. There is water available at the park a mile north of where you start out on the sand.

Hmmm.... not a lot to choose from state park-wise down that way. COE doesn't have anything down that way either, at least that's reserveable. Looks like the lion's share is going to be privately owned stuff, or boondocking on Padre. Though it isn't along the coast, I've always thought Seminole Canyon S.P was interesting, on the other side of Del Rio....

We're heading to Choke Canyon next month, ourselves....

Thanks for the suggestions.

Padre Island sounds pretty great. I have 4 wheel drive and a little Honda generator, so I guess I'm all set. I took a drive down the beach last night here on Mustang Island. Sure is pretty. I will add some photos later today...

How is South Padre? Is it still part of the National Seashore? Same camping on the beach? Someone said the beaches were nicer the farther south you went...

Well, I'm off to San Antonio for a few days. Thanks again for the responses!
