The company that installed the red light cameras in Georgia is based out of Arizona, A buddy of mine refused to pay it because the yellow light duration
had been tweaked to a 2 sec delay. It's been a year and hasn't heard from them again.

Localities in SoCal are starting to pull them out. They are make more money for the image company that monitors them then the local governments that wanted them installed. In some cases it's costing them money to pay for the service if not enough tickets are issued. Good by cameras!

Average speed cameras (ASC) record your entering the designated zone and automatically register your licence plate number using a system known as Automatic Numberplate Recognition (ANR). A second camera will do the same at the end of the zone and work out how long you took to go through the zone. From that it's easy to see if you exceeded the limit. If you do it's a photo of you entering and leaving the zone and the time and average speed that will land you a fine and penalty points on your drivers licence. They work in the UK because all licence plates are issued from a single agency and are on a single database, so it's easy to find out who you are; I'm not sure what they do about European plates, though. ASCs are typically used in construction zones when the speed limit is temporarily lower, and on some of the busier highways, like the M4 Motorway which goes to and from LHR airport!

ANR is also used to check that drivers have valid insurance and road tax, and that there are no warrants or fines outstanding against that vehicle; databases hold all this information. ANR systems can be used in the ASC zones, from static positions at the side of the highway or from within police cars or excise agency vehicles.

If you're a law abiding citizen, pay all your fines, pay your tax and insurance and you don't speed then I guess ASC and ANR are good, but for normal people it's a nightmare.

A few years ago while driving in Calgary Alberta Canada, A black sports car flew past me on the outside lane. I was in the middle, doing just under the 100 klm (65 miles per hour) and laughed that the black car just got a ticket. A few months later I get a letter in the mail from the car rental that said I got a ticket and they paid it, doubled that amount and charged that to my credit card. I asked for a copy of the picture and it showed the car I was driving, and way up ahead, the black car. I had no means to fight it so I got screwed and didn`t even get a kiss.

Always have your AS in tow, it obstructs the rear license plate and put a phony plate on the front. Hahaha

Florida is using a " Pay by plate system" on the Florida Tpk. They removed all the toll booths in some areas and it's all electronic. If you have the SunPass they charge your acct. if not they snap a photo of your plate and mail you a bill at the end of the month + a small service fee. Last year I was using it several times with my AS in tow. I never got the bill so I figure that their photo just got the roof of my trailer. Works for me but red light violation camera are not so stupid though. At least I don't think so.
