Simplifying

I don't mean to hijack the thread but simplifying and full-timing are very intertwined topics....

My favorite book on simplifying is: Your Money Or Your Life by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin. While there are many other authors and lots of means to approach simplifying, YMOYL really gets at the fundamentals of what makes you happy/fulfilled and where money and stuff fit into that picture.

Be sure to take a look at the Early Retirement Forum for topics related to simplifying - it's owned/operated by AndyR the same person that owns/operates Airforums. See the other Social Knowledge sites at the bottom of the Airforums page.

So far we've been 'sans-house' since October 31st. Don't miss it a bit. We do have a business and a shop - which translates to 'STORAGE' in one of the extra buildings. It also means that we have a semi-permanent spot for a covered spot for both RVs.

We thought about renting the house - not a good idea for us - we'd still be tied to it so we opted not to go that route.

Getting rid of 99.9% of the 'stuff' was difficult - but, we found several places to sell on consignment - then flea marketed some - gave a lot away - got easier as we went. I opted to keep a couple of pieces - but only a couple.

I'm relieved to be rid of it - and am loving it.

Everyone's financial situation is different, but a house is one of the few things that works as an investment that increase in value, while giving good cash flow.

Of course, this isn't true currently in all housing markets in the US...

Hi Steve, I am going to try "full timing with a safety net" I own my home a 4 bedroom town house, and I have 2 tenants both over 55 who rent separately from me and share house. This leaves me my own bedroom to retreat to if I need to take a break from FTAS (full time Airstreaming).
I'm Canadian so have to make sure all my ducks are lined up to spend most of the winter in the South. To compensate for the hospitality I sign up on builds through out Al and LA.
Hoping to see more Airstreamers at these builds.

I am terrified. We sold our house in an area that usually takes a few years to sell. We sold in five weeks. We will have to and I say HAVE to stay in our AS for awhile. I dread it. I love to camp but have never had any desire to full time. We have too many pets, too many cars and I NEED a home base. I am thankful we have the trailer for a temporary place. We can store much of what we have in the shed where we store the trailer in the winter, but I am panicking at the thought of spending more than a few weeks in the trailer.
